Join Us as a Waste & Recycling Supervisor
Are you ready to lead one of the most vital frontline services in the New Forest?
Waste and recycling is the only council service delivered directly to the doors of over 83,000 households every single week. It's a service that touches every resident, every day — and we're looking for a dedicated, proactive, and people-focused supervisor to help us keep it running smoothly.
About the Role
As a Waste & Recycling Supervisor, you'll oversee the day-to-day operations of our collection services across multiple depots. You'll lead and support operational staff to ensure collections are carried out safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.
This is a hands-on, fast-paced role where no two days are the same. You'll need to respond quickly to challenges like vehicle breakdowns, staff shortages, and changing weather conditions — all while keeping services on track and residents informed.
What You'll Be Doing
* Managing frontline collection teams and ensuring service delivery meets council standards.
* Responding to operational issues and adapting plans as needed.
* Communicating with residents and internal departments to resolve queries and improve service.
* Ensuring health, safety, and welfare of all staff in line with council policies.
* Supporting service improvements as we prepare for future changes in waste and recycling.
Why Join Us Now?
This is an exciting time to come on board. Our waste and recycling services are under review, and we're preparing for future changes in what we collect and how we collect it. We're looking for someone who's not just ready to manage — but ready to lead change and help us build a cleaner, greener New Forest.
What We're Looking For
* Strong leadership and people management skills.
* Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
* Ability to work under pressure and adapt quickly.
* A commitment to safety and service excellence.
* Essential: LGV licence – applications without this cannot be considered.
What's in it for you?
* £35,646 – £39,469 per annum
* 26–27 days annual leave plus bank holidays plus an additional 5 days for 5 years local authority continuous service
* Local Government Pension Scheme and AVC Provision
* Company van for work-related travel
* On-site parking
* Wide range of employee discounts at high street retailers, including supermarkets, stores and restaurants
* A Cycle to Work scheme which could save you around 40 percent on cycles and accessories
* Employee Assistance Programme (free 24 hour legal, financial and personal advice for employees).
