IT Application Development Manager – FGH (Freemans Grattan Holdings)
Join our Technology and Digital Team for a hybrid role based at FGH Business Centre, 66-70 Vicar Ln, Bradford BD1 5AJ. We are looking for an experienced Application Development Manager to lead our core business systems, modernise our digital capabilities, and enhance the customer journey.
About The Role
* Providing leadership and oversight of application development and support for FGH’s core business systems, including legacy mainframe and commercial off‑the‑shelf/SaaS applications.
* Ensuring reliable delivery and operational support of core business applications across buying, logistics, marketing, finance, and HR functions.
* Leading and directing the wider IT/Transformation leadership team and aligning resources to achieve company targets.
* Team leadership: coaching and line‑managing the core applications delivery team (legacy COBOL/CICS, Datacom, Adabas, cloud‑integrated apps, Teradata, Oracle, etc.).
* Project delivery: coordinating multiple deliveries, maintaining a stable code base, and overseeing service performance, incident resolution, and release management.
* Application portfolio management: planning, development, support, and governance of core business applications.
* Software quality: ensuring coding standards, maintainability, and security.
* Supporting Project Managers and Scrum Masters with task oversight.
* Estimating, resource planning, and capacity management for BAU, projects, and support.
* Stakeholder and relationship management as a principal point of contact.
* Supplier and contract management for third‑party support and technology suppliers.
* Collaboration with architecture teams and SMEs to ensure technical soundness.
About You
* Extensive experience in application development management, preferably with legacy and cloud environments.
* Strong leadership, coaching, and stakeholder engagement skills.
* Proven track record in project delivery, resource planning, and service excellence.
* Excellent communication, problem‑solving, and decision‑making abilities.
* Understanding of procurement and vendor management.
* Knowledge of the retail or e‑commerce domain is an advantage.
