Location
Bridgwater / HPC Site Based
Overview
We are looking for a Secondary Steel Erection Supervisor to join a lead engineering contractor at Hinkley Point C. This is a vital site‑based role responsible for the end‑to‑end supervision of secondary steelwork installations, ensuring that all structural supports, platforms, and secondary frameworks are delivered safely, on schedule, and to exact nuclear quality specifications.
Role
Reporting to the Construction Manager, you will be the driving force for secondary steel execution on‑site. You will oversee the day‑to‑day delivery, coordinate multi‑skilled crews, and manage the critical interfaces between civil, mechanical, and piping teams to ensure a seamless handover process.
Key Responsibilities
* Site Execution & Supervision: Lead the daily installation, alignment, and bolting activities for all secondary steelwork. You will ensure that all crews follow approved method statements and rigorous nuclear lift plans.
* Resource Coordination: Efficiently allocate manpower, plant, and equipment to meet demanding construction milestones. Ensure that work packs, drawings, and materials are staged and ready ahead of execution.
* Inter‑disciplinary Liaison: Act as a key point of interface between structural, piping, and electrical teams to ensure that secondary steel supports are integrated correctly within the wider build.
* Progress & Performance: Monitor productivity on the ground, identifying constraints and escalating potential delays to site management while maintaining a Right First Time approach.
* Safety Leadership: Enforce strict adherence to site Permit‑to‑Work systems and project HSE policies. Lead daily toolbox talks and site briefings to maintain a world‑class safety culture.
* Quality Assurance (QA/QC): Oversee dimensional checks, inspections, and the punch‑listing process. Ensure all works meet the applicable codes and standards required for formal project handover.
* Reporting & Documentation: Provide detailed daily reports on progress, manpower levels, and technical queries (TQs), ensuring that all site risks are identified and mitigated.
What We’re Looking For
* Technical Background: A formal qualification or apprenticeship in Steel Erection, Structural Fabrication, or a related engineering discipline.
* Proven Track Record: Significant experience supervising structural steel or secondary steel installation on major UK infrastructure or power projects (HPC experience is highly advantageous).
* Technical Proficiency: Deep understanding of heavy lifting operations, complex bolting/alignment procedures, and reading intricate structural drawings.
* Leadership: Strong site‑leadership skills with the ability to manage diverse subcontractor crews and maintain high standards under pressure.
* Safety & Quality Focus: A proven commitment to high‑compliance safety standards and the meticulous documentation required in a nuclear environment.
