JOB TITLE: Construction Project Manager
REF: Bristol 5280291
Pay rate: £387.96 per day PAYE
Contract Type: Temporary, Anticipated 6 months
Working Arrangement: This role is hybrid, with regular attendance on site required as needed by the work in question. The successful candidate should expect to attend the office in Bristol on their start date to arrange IT and receive induction.
In order to apply for this role you will have project management experience along with previous experience in cemetery or crematoria development, public realm, or decarbonisation projects.
Responsibilities
* Senior Project Construction Manager, working with the Council's Cemeteries and Crematoria Service Area, providing client-side project management of the design, development, and construction of two key projects.
* Support a team of mainly internal project managers, supplemented by agency resources to provide additional capacity or specialist experience.
* Manage construction-specific technical and professional aspects of the project on behalf of the Council.
* Cemetery Expansion Project at construction tender stage: construct a new burial and memorialisation area and associated drainage infrastructure.
* Cremator Replacement Project at concept design stage: building and infrastructure amendments to enable installation of new electric cremators, including flue gas treatment equipment.
* Manage the overall delivery of the two projects on behalf of the council, including all client-side aspects within a local authority delivery environment.
* Manage project scope, objectives, specification, and client requirements.
* Liaise with service area managers, Council officers, third parties, and, where appropriate, the public.
* Manage budget and delivery programme.
* Engage with and undertake mandatory internal monthly reporting using online project management systems.
* Author briefing documents, reports, and presentations to satisfy governance and decision-making processes.
* Complete project administrative processes and management tasks in accordance with Council procedures, processes, systems, and rules.
What the client is looking for
* Previous experience managing large-scale, multi-disciplinary construction projects from inception to completion, ideally within a public-sector or local authority environment.
* Experience in cemetery or crematoria development, public realm, or decarbonisation projects.
* Strong understanding of civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical aspects of building and infrastructure projects, including drainage, environmental compliance, and crematorium or similar facilities.
* Experience administering and managing construction contracts (e.g., NEC, JCT) and professional service agreements, including procurement, variations, and performance monitoring.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively with service managers, internal departments, statutory authorities, contractors, and the public.
* Good understanding of CDM Regulations and a strong commitment to embedding best practice in health, safety, and sustainability throughout all project phases.
* Experience managing interfaces with planning authorities and other statutory bodies, including development control, environmental, and building regulation processes.
* Proven leadership skills in coordinating multidisciplinary teams and fostering a collaborative approach with internal project managers, consultants, and delivery partners.
