Overview
Rolls-Royce Switch into Aerospace Engineering Programme
Duration: typically 4 – 4.5 years. Location: Derby. Starting salary: Competitive.
Rolls-Royce invites you to join a career development programme that aims to train you as an Aerospace Fitter or Machinist, with expert support to help you become proficient in our state-of-the-art facilities.
On this programme you’ll receive full training and the qualifications to progress in aerospace manufacturing. You could be earning a salary of over £39,000 after successful completion of the Switch programme.
What you’ll be doing
Through Switch into Aerospace Engineering, you’ll train and gain experience as an Aerospace Fitter and a Machinist, then be aligned to a role to finish your training. Rolls-Royce facilities are open and modern, designed for a positive working environment.
* Aerospace Fitter: Learn to assemble aircraft engines using a range of tools and technical instructions. Ensure components and assemblies meet the required standards.
* Machinist: Perform precision work, producing components from specialist materials using world-class machinery, and measure/check to ensure they meet specifications.
How it works
Year one
For the first weeks you’ll learn about Rolls-Royce and the people who’ll support you. You’ll spend each week as follows:
* Four days a week at the Apprentice Academy in the Learning & Development Centre in Derby to develop practical skills and achieve the Level 2 Diploma in Engineering Operations.
* One day a week studying for your Knowledge qualification (EAL Level 2 Certificate in Engineering Operations) to develop digital skills and engineering knowledge.
* Two extended on-site work placements in Derby to gain insight into available roles in Year two.
* Where required, some mornings (07:45–09:15) at Derby College studying Maths and/or English.
Year two
You’ll be aligned to an Aerospace Fitter or Machinist apprentice role and spend more time with your training provider to develop knowledge and practical skills. You’ll also spend time on site at a Rolls-Royce facility to develop workplace skills and work on parts for our engines. You’ll have a mentoring session weekly to review progress and provide extra support.
Year three and four
You’ll work four days a week on-site in your role and one day a week at your training provider to study for Level 3 qualifications.
