PHARMACY TECHNICIAN- ENHANCED ROLE (Band 5)
PROCUREMENT AND HOMECARE
22.5 hours per week, to include late night working up to 6.30pm on rotation and to participate in Weekends and Bank Holidays working on rotation.
Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is currently offering an exciting opportunity for a Enhanced Role Pharmacy Technician to work within our Procurement and Homecare team.
This would be an ideal developmental opportunity for a band 4 Pharmacy Technician to gain knowledge and skills in a different area of Pharmacy and complete a band 4 to 5 step up programme in all aspects of Procurement and Homecare; whilst also completing other departmental in-house competency frameworks and the Accredited Checking Accuracy qualification (national framework).
You will work closely alongside a team of experienced technical, professional and administration staff to maintain and develop a high standard of medicines Homecare to patients, with often long term and complex conditions who receive their medication at home. The role will involve direct patient communication, liaison with clinicians, clinical pharmacists and nurse specialists as well as external homecare and pharmaceutical companies.
You must be a qualified pharmacy technician and registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council. Have excellent organisational skills and the desire to provide a high quality, safe, effective and efficient service to our patients. You must be able to work under pressure, prioritise work and be able to work alone, as well as part of a team. The role ensures that medicines procurement and homecare services are of a consistently high quality and in line with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society Homecare Standards and local policy and procedures.
The role also includes a regular operational commitment in order to maintain competencies and demonstrate fitness to practice as a registered pharmacy technician. This includes dispensing and accuracy checking of medicines within the Dispensary.
The proportion of time spent working within the Procurement and Homecare will be discussed upon interview.

CARE-COLLEAGUES-COMMUNITIES-COLLABORATION
Homecare
You will be responsible for the day to day technical duties relating to homecare medicines supplies including prescription management and liaising with the relevant parties to resolve discrepancies.
You will help ensure the homecare providers work within their contractual obligations and existing service level agreements. You will participate in the development of reports on quality and financial indicators on all homecare medicine services and work to maintain our high standards.
You will work with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to review existing and develop new homecare service specifications. Work with Clinical Pharmacy Team Leaders, Lead Pharmacists and other Pharmacy staff to identify, plan, and develop new opportunities for homecare services.
You will co-ordinate service review meetings for homecare medicines management working closely with pharmaceutical companies, homecare companies, pharmacists, nurses, doctors, other healthcare staff, and patients.
You will ensure compliance with current homecare medicines management guidance and contribute nationally to the development of homecare medicines management guidance and policies. You will maintain Homecare SOPs and manage any changes to the processes within the homecare service. This will also include the management of all homecare related incidents in conjunction with the homecare companies.
Procurement
The role further involves supporting all activities involved in the procurement of medicines within the trust by working closely with the team and the wider Pharmacy team to ensure the Trust and Departmental objectives are met. You will take responsibility for the purchase of medicines for direct patient use and ward supply, involving chasing outstanding orders and sourcing alternative products to maintain supply of medicines for patients.
You will need to liaise with suppliers and become familiar with using a variety of online catalogues.
You may assist in the processing of invoices for payment of pharmaceutical products for the Trust and the processing of credit notes and claims to companies for monies owed to the Trust from off contract claims.
To help support the Responsible Person (RP) for duties relating to the department'sWholesale Distribution Authorisation(WDA).
Supporting and leading elements of Cost Improvement Programmes (CIPs).
Management of regional and national contracts, ensuring departmental compliance and ensuring appropriate training is provided.
