MERITUS Talent are working with a leading defence organisation who are well embedded within the UK manufacturing indsutry, for the recruitment of a Control Systems Engineer to join their South London office on a permanent, hybrid basis. Due to the security nature of the role and projects, we can only consider candidates are a sole British national We're working with a leading engineering business in the defence sector that is looking for experienced Control Systems Engineers with strong PLC and SCADA backgrounds. This role involves designing and supporting mission-critical control systems for naval platforms, including development and through-life support for systems used on the UK submarine fleet. This is a great opportunity for engineers familiar with Siemens PLCs and large-scale SCADA solutions, particularly where there is a focus on functional safety and product security. Key Responsibilities Capture, interpret and develop customer requirements Produce technical documentation to required standards Design, develop and test PLC control systems Manage data comms and interfaces with third-party equipment Develop PLC software from various design inputs (e.g. block diagrams, flow charts) Validate software through analysis and test Support project proposals and change requests Contribute to team meetings and briefings Comply with statutory requirements and company policies Technical Skills & Experience Siemens S7-300/400 (Step 7 Professional Classic) experience Design and integration of safety-integrated, high-availability PLC systems Knowledge of industrial communication protocols: Profibus, Profinet, Modbus, EtherNet/IP, TCP/IP, UDP Experience with SCADA systems and driver configuration Familiar with full software development life cycle Solid experience in testing, commissioning and technical documentation 5 years' experience in PLC-based engineering environments Qualifications & Industry Background Degree, HNC or HND in Electrical, Electronic, Systems or Control & Instrumentation Engineering Background in Defence, Maritime, Aerospace, or other regulated sectors (Oil & Gas, Pharma, Petrochem etc.) Security Clearance Due to the nature of the work, applicants must be eligible to obtain UK Government Security Clearance (SC level).
