Job Description


Key Responsibilities:Perform MIG, Tig & Stick welding duties and plasma cuttingWeld steel components with welding equipment as specified by layouts, engineering drawings, work orders, or verbal instructionsTo be able to weld components in flat, vertical or overhead positionsTo monitor the fitting, burning and welding processes to avoid overheating, warping, shrinking, distortion or expansion of partsWork includes setup, laying out work using jigs/fixtures or hand layouts to fabricate parts and/or rework finished productsWork with fitters or fitters/welders to assist in the fabrication or welding of multi-component partsOperate hoists, hand power tools, slings, grinders, cutting torch, and other hand tools related to the jobs needsInspect and correct welds as necessary to meet product specificationsRead, understand, and follow job order specifications, engineering drawings, and/or work ordersBe able to read and interpret blueprints, welding process specifications and also welding symbolsAble to operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipmentTo ensure assigned work is understood prior to commencingComplete housekeeping duties in assigned area or project areas on a daily basisComplete assigned work within a given time frame and according to specificationsTo maintain confidentiality of the company's information and supplier's information as requestedTo be able to follow company Health and Safety proceduresInspect and ensure that all work equipment is maintained and fully functionalTo comply with Company policies and procedures as defined in the Employee Handbook and the post holders terms and particulars of employmentResponsibility for compliance with Quality, Environmental and Health & Safety standards in force at any given time; ensuring all workers always follow safe working practicesEnsuring all equipment and materials are kept in good repair, including calibration, Loler and Puwer inspections.Ensure materials and supplies are ordered in a timely manner and the throughput of work is well planned and documentedEnsure that paperwork and systems are updated to meet maintenance compliance requirementsUndertaking review of staffing levels and liaise with the Group transport maintenance manager to initiate the recruitment and performance management processTo carry out any additional duties that may be reasonably requested from time to timeKey Competencies:Professional in all aspects of work with the ability to develop good working relationships with colleagues, customers and other business contactsExcellent time management and organisational skillsThe ability to work under pressure using own initiative; managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlinesStrong organisational skillsThe ability to work flexibly and make decisions quicklyClear effective communicator; in person, in writing and on the telephoneThe ability to harness modern technology, implement industry best practicesEssential skills:Minimum NVQ Level 3 QualificationValid coded welding certificateExtensive experience of supervising a busy fabrication shop and providing support across areas of the business using your engineering experienceProven track record of working on the front line in a similar business and thoroughly understands the dynamics of an in-house workshopThe ability to deliver verbal and written reports to senior managersEducated to GCSE level or equivalent with good literacy and numeracyIT Literate with the ability to use a range of packages applicable to the roleA commitment to up-skill as required to meet the changing needs of the businessFull, clean driving licenseAn excellent commercial understanding of vehicle costing and resource managementDesirable SkillsExcellent decision-making skills, a high level of initiative and able to prioritise and problem solveThe ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environmentWorks well under pressure and is still able to inspire and lead a team of Fabricators and Apprentice in various disciplinesThe ability to work as part of an integral teamExcellent time keeping, flexibility and attendance is requiredRelative experience in environmental controls applicable to transport/metal recycling and other associated processesTPBN1_UKTJ
