Senior Dental Officer - Clinical Supervisor
North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust (NCIC) invites applications for a Senior Dental Officer to serve as a Clinical Supervisor. Closing date: 16 June 2026.
Principal Responsibilities (Educational)
* Provide lectures, seminars and tutorials in line with areas of expertise during the four-year dental course.
* Participate in educational assessment processes, peer review and other quality and professional development activities.
* Take part in the student admissions process including face‑to‑face interviews.
* Collaborate with the University, Dental Education Centres, Medical & Dental Collaborative and other NHS and partner institutions.
* Undertake other relevant duties commensurate with the level of the post.
Main Duties of the Job
* Participate in the assessment of student performance in the Carlisle Dental Education Centre.
* Work collaboratively with Full Time Senior Clinical Teachers and the dental staff of the Specialist & Special Care Dental Service to enhance clinical teaching.
* Screen patients and provide a limited amount of emergency access care.
* Be part of a small team of clinical tutors, supervisors and dental nurses delivering high‑quality, personalised training to undergraduate students.
Person Specification
Experience
* Experience of providing a wide range of dental treatments in a variety of settings.
* Previous experience as a clinical educator or trainer.
* Familiarity with workplace based assessment.
Knowledge
* Basic Life Support and the skills to lead a medical emergency.
* Knowledge of NHS regulations relevant to primary care dentistry.
* Knowledge of a range of feedback models.
* Awareness of procedures for managing performance and supporting trainees.
Skills
* Organisational and leadership skills – ability to communicate, support and motivate a team.
* Ability to present to small groups.
* Coaching and mentoring skills.
Qualifications
* BDS or equivalent.
* Registration with GDC.
* FD obtained or equivalence proved.
* Postgraduate teaching qualification.
Personal Qualities
* Good communication and interpersonal skills.
* Enthusiastic team contributor.
* Demonstrates professional integrity.
* Understanding of the difference between supervision, coaching and mentoring.
