We are recruiting a fixed-term role, up to 2 years, for somebody with experience of working in or regulating energy sectors, including various scales of combustion plant, waste incineration and refineries. You will regulate energy sectors to protect people and the environment from emissions and help mitigate and adapt to the impacts of climate change. Responding to incidents is a central part of the role and you may be asked to have an incident role or provide business continuity support during an incident.
Responsibilities
* provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance, and training
* develop strategy for our sectors and produce tools to regulate, support development and deliver environmental outcomes
* commission and manage external research projects where needed
* work with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations and other key industry players

Team context
The Energy & COMAH team is part of Energy and Manufacturing Industries Regulation of Environment & Business (E&B) Directorate. Our technical experts lead on the definition of standards for our sectors, providing strategic direction and tools in support of regulation, guidance and training to deliver new duties, and environmental best practice.
Experience/skills Required
* ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures and actively encourage consideration of diversity issues in work
* relevant technical and regulatory knowledge, and experience of the work area for the role, including knowledge of control measures for emissions to air where relevant
* ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies and academia
* ability to work cooperatively as part of a team to achieve common goals
