This is a hands-on, technically demanding leadership position within a complex Energy from Waste and MRF operation. The plant has ongoing operational challenges and requires a Plant Manager who can bring strong technical knowledge, structure, leadership and a real commitment to improving performance. You will be joining a business that needs someone who is comfortable getting close to the detail, supporting engineering and operations teams, challenging behaviours, improving standards and guiding people through change. The successful candidate will need to be visible, credible and technically strong. You will be the type of leader who can walk the plant, understand what is happening, ask the right questions, support maintenance and operations, and drive improvement through people, systems and process. This role would suit an experienced Plant Manager, Operations Manager, Site Manager or Senior Operations Leader from an Energy from Waste, power generation, biomass, gasification, process plant, heavy industrial, waste management or similar technical environment. The role As Plant Manager, you will take responsibility for the safe, compliant and effective operation of the facility, including the Energy from Waste plant and associated MRF operation. You will lead site performance across operations, maintenance support, safety, environmental compliance, KPIs, staff development, budgets, improvement plans and stakeholder relationships. Key responsibilities will include: Leading daily management of the EFW and MRF operations Driving improvements in plant availability, reliability and operational performance Supporting the maintenance function and helping improve asset performance Ensuring compliance with environmental permit requirements, legislation and site procedures Building a proactive health, safety and environmental culture across the site Managing KPIs, operational reporting, budgets, cashflow and performance targets Overseeing waste quality, waste supply and operational continuity Leading, coaching and developing site teams, including behaviour change and performance standards Supporting planned outages, unplanned outages and return-to-service activity Working with group functions including QEHS, finance, projects and operations Improving site systems, procedures, permit processes and productivity standards Acting as a credible technical and operational leader across the plant What we are looking for We are looking for someone with strong senior operational management experience in a complex industrial environment. You will need to be technically confident, operationally resilient and comfortable leading through challenge. This role needs someone who can set standards, influence behaviour, support people and still get into the detail when required. The ideal candidate will bring: Senior operational leadership experience within power generation, Energy from Waste, gasification, biomass, waste processing, utilities, heavy process plant or similar Strong technical understanding of plant operations, maintenance, reliability and performance improvement Experience with steam boilers, steam turbine generators, auxiliary systems or similar power/process plant equipment Knowledge of QEHS management systems, environmental compliance and regulatory standards Experience managing KPIs, budgets, plant availability, outages and operational improvement plans Ability to lead teams through change, challenge poor behaviours and build accountability Strong communication and influencing skills across operators, engineers, senior leadership, clients and regulators Experience with SOPs, permit systems, maintenance management systems and continuous improvement tools Ability to work under pressure in a live operational environment Engineering, operational or relevant technical qualifications would be advantageous The following would be beneficial: Gasification plant experience Energy from Waste experience NEBOSH, IOSH, IEMA or similar BOAS or similar boiler qualification High Voltage Authorised Person experience First Aid qualification Advanced engineering or operations qualification The type of person who will succeed You will need to be comfortable joining a plant that still has challenges to work through.
