An exciting new opportunity has arisen for an aspiring leader to join the Senior Management Team with our client as Head of Building Services at our new state of the art facilities and workshops at our clients site. The School of Building Services delivers a variety of qualifications to both full time and part time students in Brickwork, Multiskills, Carpentry and Plumbing. In this dynamic role, you'll be responsible for shaping the future of our students, ensuring they receive an exceptional education that prepares them for success in the ever-evolving construction industry. For the post holder, a strong understanding of curriculum development and the strategic aims of further education is essential. You will be responsible for the delivery of a high-quality construction curriculum that enhances the life chances of our learners through critical self-assessment, excellent quality improvement planning and exceptional stakeholder relationships. You will have the opportunity to develop a construction business plan that considers the diversification and growth opportunities within the further education and construction sectors, fostering new and existing employer engagement. The successful individual will be responsible for assessing financial performance across the academic and non-academic areas, ensuring accuracy and scrutiny of the accounts, and contributing to the success of the college's strategic goals. The post holder will own the operational management of finance including effective internal financial controls, policies, and procedures, and ensuring timely completion of all month-end and year-end accounts. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Oversee the production of our clients monthly management accounts including cash flow forecasting, monthly finance reports, financial returns and annual financial statements. Review balance sheet reconciliations and bring any concerns to the Director of Finance To prepare the annual revenue & capital budgets and the preparation of financial forecasts. To prepare three-year forecast, additional modelling and budgets, working with the management accountants to prepare the packs for discussion with Director of Finance to required timeframes. Responsibility for the production of the annual two-year ESFA forecast (CFFR) and commentary. To liaise with the college auditors and other significant stakeholders. To implement recommendations from audit reports as required. To assist with the preparation of financial regulations and ensure that they are complied with. To prepare financial procedures and systems documentation as required ensuring that they are compliant with financial regulations. Work closely with the senior leadership team on the curriculum planning process to ensure the financial viability and efficiency of the college's curriculum plan. Lead the college's annual external audit process to ensure the timely submission of the college's annual accounts, including the accounts of its subsidiary, acting as the key contact for all ESFA financial returns. Work collaboratively with the MIS team for our client and other colleagues to ensure all funding returns are timely and accurate. To maintain an expert up to date knowledge of relevant funding policies and regulations for funding streams relevant - 16-19 funding, Apprenticeship, Adult skill funding. Ensure funding information is compliant, recorded, reported and reconciled, maximised and up to date in the clients accounts. Prepare costings, estimates and calculations as required, presenting findings in an appropriate format and provide advice and guidance to management thereon. Lead on our clients financial modelling and scenario planning including operational activities, pay modelling, bid contributions, restructuring costings and projects. Close monitoring of capital expenditure and receipts against projects, to ensure compliance with grant funding and audit requirement. To ensure quarterly VAT returns are prepared and to understand and advise on VAT matters relating to education. To assist in treasury management, working with the management accountants to identify level of short-terms funds available to place on deposit. Manage and support the team to ensure the team are able to respond to changing workloads throughout the academic year and deliver business objectives, including annual appraisal cycle and regular performance management. GENERAL AND COLLEGE RESPONSIBILITIES As a member of the Senior Management Team, contribute actively and flexibly to the overall management and direction of our client. Demonstrate commitment and enthusiasm to promote the principle of equality and diversity in employment and service delivery; Be familiar with and promote the Equality and Diversity Policy; Promote equality and diversity in the workplace and set the tone for behaviour between colleagues (for manager roles) Be familiar with Safeguarding requirements as outlined in the Safeguarding Policy and comply with its requirements to safeguard and protect the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults. Participate as required in site-wide activities such as duty manager rotas, marketing activities and staff and student events. In accordance with our clients risk policy, identify and record material risks for the Department. Ensure safeguards/controls are in place to mitigate the risks to an acceptable level. If required prepare and deliver a risk management action plan further to reduce the level of a risk. In addition, manage the Department's operation of safeguards and controls required to mitigate College level risks (for Senior Management team roles). Undertake such additional duties or projects as the Director of Finance may determine from time to time, after consultation with the postholder. The right candidate will have: Membership of a professional CCAB accounting body or equivalent Advanced Excel modelling. Extensive management accounting experience in a finance setting, preferably gained working in a Further Education setting. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Negotiation skills and the ability to develop strong stakeholder working relationships both internally and externally. A keen eye for detail and desire to probe further into data. Adept at applying critical thinking to solve problems. Ability to work effectively in a time sensitive environment.
