Detailed job description and main responsibilities Deliver highly specialist, evidence-based care for patients with complex epilepsy needs. Act as a key point of contact and advocate for patients and families Maintain accurate clinical records in line with Trust policy Identify patients with established epilepsy and support those undergoing diagnosis. Work within all groups of patients with epilepsy including those with intellectual disability, epilepsy in pregnancy and young people in transition from paediatric care. Contribute to clinical governance, quality improvement and service development Work in line with Trust values, safeguarding, and information governance requirements Travel independently across a wide geographical area (full UK driving licence required) Person specification Commitment to trust values and behaviours Essential criteria Must be able to demonstrate behaviours consistent with the Trust's "We are here for you" behavioural standards Training and Qualifications Essential criteria Current registration with appropriate professional body Degree in health/nursing related studies Relevant post-reg study relevant to specialist pathway / willingness to undertake at master's level Recognised teaching and assessing qualification / have completed teaching and assessing supervisor training. Evidence of leadership course Completion of all local competency packages or has undertaken WINW packages essential to role and specialty Research training / experience. Demonstrates and awareness of research principles and their application to clinical practice. Desirable criteria Non-Medical Prescriber/willingness to undertake if relevant to the role. Master's degree or equivalent or willingness to work towards/equivalent experience. Experience Essential criteria Minimum of 2 years' experience in band 6 role and/ or working within a Neurology ward/with Epilepsy patients Good understanding of Epilepsy CNS role Significant post registration experience at band 6 or above, in appropriate clinical setting Demonstrates professional autonomy and effective decision making skills when managing caseload Experience in supervision of registered, non-registered staff and students Ability to manage clinical patient caseload efficiently and effectively Experience in using relevant hospital IT systems Evidence of teaching and assessment skills, including the teaching of patients, families and colleagues Desirable criteria Experience in Epilepsy/Neurology Communication and relationship Skills Essential criteria Demonstrate basic IT skills Can minimise interpersonal conflict and barriers to communication, demonstrating evidence of negotiating and influencing skills Ability to work within a MDT; collaborating with, leading when required, negotiating with and influencing the work of others across a range of disciplines and on own initiative including the sharing of highly complex information and implementation of plans for Service development. Ability to deliver presentations and chair meetings Ability to support colleagues, patients and relatives/carers in distressing circumstances Experience of initiating and implementing change effectively, engaging stakeholders in the process. Desirable criteria Evidence of networking locally, nationally and internationally Analytical and Judgement Skills Essential criteria Demonstrate confidence in assessing, planning, delivering, prioritising and evaluating patient care Able to respond to problem situations and ensure that effective interventions are put in place Ability to interpret and analyse highly complex clinical and non-clinical information Lead on the identifying, successful implementation and management of a nursing change process. Recognition of own level of competence and limitations. Able to identify own learning needs Evidence of clinical and non-clinical data collection, evaluation, analysis, interpretation and application to clinical practice Demonstrate confidence in assessing, planning, delivering, prioritising and evaluating patient care Desirable criteria Experience in writing reports Planning and Organisational Skills Essential criteria Demonstrate an ability to prioritise own workload, and that of others. Recognise, prioritise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations within an unpredictable working environment. Able to lead the development, implementation and monitoring of local protocols and objectives and action plans to lead and introduce change Demonstrate an ability to supervise and support others in the prioritisation of their patient care Awareness of budget constraints and ordering specialist supplies Knowledge and understanding of national policy and current issues relating to specialty Desirable criteria Experience in reviewing service, ensuring compliances with National Standards Physical Skills Essential criteria Physically able to perform the full range of nursing duties. Demonstrate dexterity and accuracy in undertaking clinical skills, use of equipment and documentation Able to undertake manual handling manoeuvres Ability to work without supervision within scope of practice and manage own workload; effective time management.
