Reports to:
Head Baker & Senior Baker
Hours:
Full-time, 40 hours per week (Monday–Friday, with flexibility for occasional weekends based on business needs)
Salary:
£14.00+ per hour (based on experience)
+ additional responsibilities payment for hosting work experience
Purpose of the Role
To lead and support the bakery production team. The Shift Lead oversees daily operations on the production floor, supporting the senior baker in ensuring efficiency, quality, and safety. This role acts as the go-to-person during shifts - resolving issues, coordinating tasks, and motivating team members to deliver excellent results.
You'll also support Luminary's social missions by hosting work experience (typically once a week) for women on our Luminary Charity Training Programme.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead daily production shifts, ensuring smooth workflow and timely delivery of baking schedules
* Oversee team performance, offering support, guidance and on-the-job training as needed
* Assisting the Head Baker & Senior Baker in meeting production deadlines
* Host work experience placements and offer insight into bakery life
* Support product development for new consumer and corporate offerings
* Maintain product quality and consistency, ensuring all items meeting Luminary's high standards
* Uphold food hygiene, health, and safety standards in life with company policy
Requirements
Essential:
* Minimum 3 years of professional baking experience, ideally in a production or artisan bakery
* Previous experience supervisory or leading a team
* Strong technical baking skills, with consistency and attention to detail
* Organised, and able to manage multiple priorities under pressure
* Motivated, hard working and collaborative
* Physically able to lift and handle items weighing up to 50lbs (approx 23kg)
* Proof of the right to work in the UK
