What will I be doing in this role?
As an Estimator, you will support the bid function by creating tailored cost proposals in response to tenders and land package deals. Your responsibilities will include providing quotations for projects across the education, commercial, and residential sectors, including new build and refurbishment/repurposing projects.
In a typical day, you could expect to:
1. Create and submit tender proposals based on drawings, specifications, and industry knowledge.
2. Work with our supply chain to obtain and review competitive quotations for our cost proposals.
3. Conduct site visits with clients and operational teams to inform your costing exercises.
4. Formulate bespoke caveats and exclusions for each tender to ensure clarity for clients and protection for the business.
The ideal candidate will:
* Have extensive knowledge of the residential construction sector with proven experience.
* Prepare bills of quantities and schedules of rates for tenders, ensuring correct formatting and compliance.
* Be experienced in pricing work from first principles and using supply chain information.
* Review subcontract tender submissions for compliance and include them in estimates.
* Provide internal take-offs and measurements as needed.
* Prepare and submit tender queries and clarifications.
* Attend opportunity launches, mid-tender reviews, settlement, and handover meetings.
* Participate in off-site meetings and surveys with clients as required.
* Arrange key supply chain tender review meetings.
* Ensure timely, compliant, and accurate submission of tender cost documentation.
* Understand client needs, tender requirements, and business operations by reviewing specifications.
* Establish and maintain relationships with subcontractors and the supply chain.
* Assist the bid lead in assessing risk levels and forming caveats to protect the company.
* Handle all commercial amendments, discussions, and negotiations up to contract award.
* Follow the bid filing system, ensuring proper archiving and easy access to information.
* Work with directors to obtain cost approvals before bid submission.
* Undertake appraisals for land-led development sites.
* Perform any other reasonable duties as required.
Role Requirements
* Minimum of 5+ years of industry experience in an estimating role.
* Experience with estimating software (e.g., Conquest, Bluebeam, or similar).
* Strong verbal, written, and numerical skills.
* IT literate with advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
* Understanding of P&L principles such as margins, markups, and multipliers.
* Familiarity with financial and project management principles.
* Must hold a full driving license as travel to sites across the Midlands is required.
Role Particulars
* Company contribution pension scheme.
* Full-time position, Monday to Friday.
* Ideally, an industry-recognized qualification such as Certified Professional Estimator (CPE).
* Relevant qualifications like BTEC in Building Studies, Building Engineering, or Building Management, or a HNC/HND/Degree in Quantity Surveying/Construction Management or equivalent.

Salary: £40,000 - £60,000 depending on experience.
