JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified Postdoctoral fellow to join the Department of Chemical Engineering at WPI. The successful candidate will conduct cutting-edge computational research aimed at developing machine learning algorithms to enhance multi-physics simulations in catalysis. This work will contribute to next-generation technologies involving plasma, electrocatalytic, microwave, and field-induced reactor systems. The position offers an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of machine learning, kinetics, and transport phenomena in advanced catalytic processes. The initial appointment is for 12 months, with potential for renewal based on performance and funding availability.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Key Responsibilities
1. Develop multi-physics simulation frameworks for complex reactor systems, including plasma, microwave, electrocatalytic, and field-enhanced reactors.
2. Design and implement generalizable machine learning algorithms (e.g., graph neural networks) to couple transport and kinetics.
3. Construct microkinetic models using machine-learning-derived energetics and apply active learning to automate process optimization.
4. Conduct thorough literature reviews and contribute to the preparation of manuscripts and research proposals.
5. Present research findings at meetings and conferences, and assist in supervising and mentoring graduate students.
6. Perform additional related duties as assigned by the principal investigator.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education:
7. Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Computer Science, Chemistry, Physics, or a closely related field.
Skills and Experience:
8. Strong background in multi-physics simulations related to plasma, electrocatalysis, or microwave systems.
9. Proficiency in machine learning techniques, particularly in scientific applications.
10. Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
11. Prior experience mentoring students and a track record of scholarly publications is desirable.
