Overview

British Transport Police have an opportunity for a Business Support Officer to join our National Network Policing Support Department (NPSD)’s Citizens in Policing team. As a Business Support Officer, you will play a key role in providing high‑quality administrative and business support to the NPSD, ensuring efficient service delivery across multiple work strands including volunteers, cadets, Special Constables and wider community engagement programmes, including public events. This is a varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same.

What You'll Be Doing

* Providing administrative coordination and support across all Citizens in Policing work strands, ensuring data security, compliance and accurate record management.
* Supporting Community Engagement programmes, workshops, ceremonies and events, including planning, logistics and on‑the‑day assistance.
* Managing and maintaining key databases (DutySheet, PPO, PSV), processing vetting checks, and serving as a point of contact for PSD regarding vetting matters.
* Raising purchase orders, processing invoices, booking travel and accommodation, and supporting financial monitoring activities within the department.

What You’ll Bring To The Team

* GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics (minimum entry level).
* Experience using IT applications—particularly Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint—with the ability to produce accurate work often to tight deadlines.
* Strong administrative experience, including developing, maintaining and updating office systems, databases and procedures.
* Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with colleagues at all levels and members of the public.
* Ability to manage conflicting demands, work under pressure, and use initiative while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
* Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility and a customer‑focused approach.
* Willingness to conduct PNC/PND checks for PPO and volunteer programmes (or undertake training within the first 3 months).
* Strong IT skills including the ability to create spreadsheets, manage data and produce reports.

Desirable Skills

* Knowledge of police finance systems or other systems commonly used in policing organisations.

What We Offer

* 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays, increasing to 30 days after 5 years.
* Family‑friendly policies, including up to 26 weeks paid maternity and adoption leave.
* Bespoke benefits platform and Blue Light Card access.
* Salary sacrifice options for cycles, home technology, gym membership, and electric vehicles.
* Interest‑free annual rail season ticket loan after 6 months.
* Access to the Transport Benevolent Fund for health, welfare, and financial support.
* Development opportunities, including fully funded apprenticeships.
* Excellent Pension scheme: BTP GPP Police Staff Pension Scheme, administered by Royal London.

Vetting Requirements

Successful applicants must pass Recruitment/Management Vetting (3/5 years minimum UK residency required), including a full background and financial disclosure.

Medical Requirements

Relevant health and medical history details will be requested to support employee wellbeing.

Inclusion & Diversity

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, identities and lived experiences. We are proud to be an inclusive employer and strive to create a workplace that is fair, respectful and accessible to all. We actively work to challenge discrimination, remove barriers and ensure equity throughout our recruitment and employment practices.
