Research Assistant Clinical Trial Assessor - UOD2036

Posted on 11 November 2025 | Reference: UOD2036

Grade 7 Spine 29

We would like to recruit an enthusiastic clinical trial assessor for a part-time, fixed-term role in the School of Health Sciences, University of Dundee.

The position is for 3 hours per week on a fixed term contract for 27 months and secondment from a clinical role in the NHS will be considered.

The post holder will act as the blind assessor for the PRACTISE study, a Stroke Association funded project being led by Glasgow Caledonian University. Tayside is a research site in this multi-site project.

The project aims to examine the feasibility of a personalised physiotherapy programme consisting of goal setting, supported self-management and exercise supported by an online video-based exercise platform compared to usual care, for increasing rehabilitation time after stroke.

The post-holder will be responsible for working with the Chief Investigator, Study Co-ordinator and local Tayside Principal Investigator to arrange and carry out the assessments associated with the PRACTISE intervention. Undertaking assessments will require visiting participants in their homes and conducting assessments according to assessment protocols and the precise recording of the resulting data.

This position would be ideal for a physiotherapist or occupational therapist who is looking to obtain some experience of working on a research project, but we would consider other professionals with appropriate experience. The post can either be a secondment from an NHS role, or as a part-time contract with the University of Dundee.

Ideally, the candidate would have a masters degree or equivalent experience in an appropriate topic, and some knowledge of clinical research methods, processes and governance. As the project involves working with people with stroke and their families, some experience of working with people who have physical disabilities and communication and cognitive difficulties is desirable.

The position would involve visiting study participants in their homes and would require travel across Tayside. Travel expenses will be provided. The postholder will be based within the University of Dundee and will be part of the School of Health Sciences.

The University of Dundee has a vibrant academic community, with a skilled and enthusiastic team, delivering a range of education programmes and undertaking world-leading research that directly enhances health outcomes. The School of Health Sciences undertakes healthcare research to promote health, well-being, social participation and caring throughout the lifespan. The majority of the School's research was classed as 'internationally excellent' in terms of originality and significance in the Research Excellence Framework 2021.

The School boasts an inspirational, skilled, friendly and enthusiastic team whose research and education activities have real impact. Staff are encouraged to share ideas to push the excellence within the School further to help us keep transforming the lives of others. They are supported to undertake continuous personal and professional development, which will contribute to enhancing knowledge and skills within health sciences research. We are one of the UK's leading universities - internationally recognised for our expertise across a range of disciplines and research breakthroughs in multiple areas, including science, medicine and engineering, amongst many others.
