Overview
The role involves supporting the police in custody suites, caring for detainees, completing forensic samples, and coordinating with other agencies to aid detainee rehabilitation.
Responsibilities
* Assist police officers in custody suites.
* Provide physical, mental health and wellbeing support to detainees.
* Complete forensic samples and related documentation.
* Collaborate with other agencies to support detainee rehabilitation.
* Use computer and various software effectively during the shift.
* Work flexibly across assigned custody suites and region.
Compensation and Working Hours
Salary to be discussed at interview. Full‑time employees work a fixed shift rota: 4 hours on and 4 days off (06:45‑19:00 for day shifts, 18:45‑07:00 for night shifts) with a 2‑year advance rolling rota. Part‑time employees follow a 2‑day on, 8 days off pattern with occasional night shifts. Referral bonus: £150 for each successful colleague referral.
Minimum Requirements
* Previous police, security or armed forces experience is beneficial.
* Reasonable spoken and written English and basic numeracy skills.
* Competent with IT and computer use.
* Full valid UK driving licence.
* Right to work in the UK (British passport or ILR for 3 years + no gaps > 3 months abroad).
* Subject to police vetting checks; clean driving and criminal record required.
Training and Development
Successful candidates will complete a 3‑week initial training course (ITC) on full pay, followed by continued development. Opportunities exist to progress to Senior Custody Detention Officer and manage larger teams.
