Primary Design Engineer
Our client is seeking a talented and experienced Primary Design Engineer to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the design and development of Grid and Primary substations, ensuring technical compliance and high standards of safety and performance. You will be working on substation upgrades and new projects ranging from 11kV to 132kV, playing a key role in delivering high‑quality engineering solutions.
Job Requirements
* Minimum HNC in Electrical Engineering.
* Experience in HV and EHV plant specification, design, load calculations, and rating studies (11kV to 132kV).
* Experience preparing specifications for HV and EHV substation equipment.
* Exposure to substation cable design, protection, and control.
* Proven experience in HV and EHV substation design (AIS & GIS).
* Knowledge of engineering standards and technical policies for HV and EHV substations.
* Design cost estimation skills.
* Strong understanding of H&S and CDM requirements.
* Ability to travel as needed for project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
* Produce comprehensive design drawings for Grid and Primary substations.
* Prepare technical specifications for electrical plant and associated designs for substation projects.
* Generate substation design feasibility reports, cost estimates, layouts, and general arrangements.
* Review designs produced by suppliers and clients to ensure technical compliance.
* Ensure designs meet contract specifications and client satisfaction.
* Perform the role of CDM Designer and/or Principal Designer for HV and EHV projects.
* Identify and manage Health and Safety risks and hazards.
* Attend site meetings to support design or requirement changes during project build.
* Align project design works with programme, quality, and margin objectives.
* Develop and maintain client relationships.
