We are currently recruiting for a Senior Engineer – Adit (SCL) to join us on one of the most nationally significant infrastructure projects of our time.
As part of the Civil Works Alliance (CWA), you’ll play a key role in supporting the construction of Sizewell C – a 3.2-gigawatt nuclear power station that will provide low-carbon electricity for around 6 million UK homes. This is more than a project – it’s a critical step towards the UK’s clean energy future, delivering reliable power for at least 60 years.
This opportunity will see you lead the engineering and on-site delivery of sprayed concrete lining (SCL) works in shafts and adits. Based between London, and Suffolk,you’ll be working with a multidisciplinary team at the forefront of innovation in underground and tunnelling works on a nuclear-regulated site.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop work methodologies and sequencing for SCL adit construction
Review and interpret design packages and ground support requirements
Supervise daily execution of SCL activities to meet safety, quality, and programme goals
Lead inspections and quality control for sprayed concrete applications, including testing and reporting
Ensure compliance with nuclear safety protocols and health & safety procedures
Collaborate with stakeholders including designers, consultants, subcontractors, and regulatory teams
Monitor ground behaviour and excavation progress; report risks and propose mitigations
Provide input into construction planning, reporting, and lessons learned documentation
Competencies & Experience Required:
Degree in Civil, Geotechnical or Structural Engineering (or related discipline)
* Extensive experience in Methods
Proven experience in SCL tunnelling, shaft sinking, and adit excavation
Strong working knowledge of sprayed concrete methods and specifications (e.g., EN 14487, EFNARC)
Experience working on complex infrastructure or regulated environments such as nuclear or transport
Understanding of waterproofing, ground treatment, and temporary works design
Familiarity with TBMs and Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015
Strong leadership, stakeholder engagement and technical reporting skills
Certifications such as CSCS, SMSTS, or nuclear safety passport are advantageous
