Skarn Associates is the leading provider of carbon intensity curves for the metals and mining industry since 2020.
We are looking for a candidate to join us as Downstream Metals Analyst, and we are looking for a person who would take pride in working as part of a dynamic research team to provide our wide range of key industry clients with transparent and insightful analysis of energy consumption and the carbon footprint for the downstream production of base metals.
Reporting to the Head of Research, the candidate will undertake the research, collation and modelling of energy and GHG emissions data for base metal smelters and refineries worldwide.
Responsibilities:
* Updating production, energy and emissions data for base metals downstream plants worldwide
* Maintain a suite of analysis models (typically in Excel format)
* Work collaboratively with team members in the wider research team to analyse and reconcile integrated mine-smelter-refinery assets
* Contribute to and lead consulting projects as appropriate
* Keep current on developments for primary and secondary base metal smelting and refining
Skills & Attributes:
* Fluent English speaker, a secondary language is desirable but not essential
* Experience with data analysis and modelling
* Strong interest in the metals industry (especially in smelting and refining)
* Excellent communication skills
* Excellent attention to detail
* Comfortable presenting data to large audiences
* Strong prioritisation and organisational skills with the ability to work to tight deadlines
* Excellent interpersonal skills
* Ability to analyse and model data
Qualification:
Educated to degree level in a relevant area e.g. Chemical / Process Engineering, Materials Science, Metallurgy or similar. Completion of modules related to extractive metallurgy, circular economy, sustainability engineering, energy transition and/or metals decarbonisation is desirable but not essential.
