Assistant Accountant
Location: Birmingham City Centre (Hybrid - 2 days in office, 3 days remote) | Contract Type: 3-Month Fixed Term | Salary: Competitive
About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join our finance team on a short-term basis. This role is ideal for someone with strong accounting fundamentals who thrives in a hybrid working environment and is looking to contribute to a dynamic and supportive team.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts
* Support with bank reconciliations and cash flow reporting
* Process invoices, expenses, and payments accurately and timely
* Maintain and update financial records and ledgers
* Assist with VAT returns and other statutory reporting
* Liaise with internal departments and external stakeholders as needed
* Provide support during audits and financial reviews
* Contribute to process improvements and system efficiencies
Requirements
* AAT qualified or working towards a relevant accounting qualification (e.g., ACCA, CIMA)
* Previous experience in a similar accounting or finance role
* Strong Excel skills and familiarity with accounting software (e.g., Sage, Xero, QuickBooks)
* Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Strong communication skills and a proactive attitude
Working Arrangements
* Hybrid working model: 2 days per week in our Birmingham City Centre office, 3 days working from home
