0116 - Consultant in Care of the Elderly and General Medicine

Wehave a long tradition in multi-professional training and education atundergraduate and postgraduate level, as well as guiding candidates through asuccessful CESR application.
Weare actively involved in care transformation for older people of Barnsley atIntegrated Care Board level through the development of a Frailty Virtual Ward,Frailty SDEC, and Integrated Care with community colleagues, as well as servicedevelopment and delivery in hospital inpatient and outpatient settings.
Adetailed job plan will be agreed with the successful candidate on appointment.The successful applicant will be contracted to 10 PAs per week on average. It isanticipated that the split of programmed activities will be 8.5 direct clinicalcare and 1.5 supporting professional activities to ensure successful GMCrevalidation. Additional PAs can be negotiated and agreed with the DivisionalDirector and Clinical Lead to reflect additional management and professionalresponsibilities, but the successful candidate will not be expected to committo working more than 10 programmed activities on average per week. The agreedjob plan will be subject to annual review and job planning.
Thispost will include weekend working on Frailty SDEC, currently just onSaturdays. Seven days a week working iscurrently being reviewed by the Trust and the COTE team is expected to provide7 days consultant cover for Geriatric Medicine once this is operational.

Person Specification
Audit and Teaching
* Knowledge of multidisciplinary clinical audit principles
* Evidence of effective teaching to medical students and doctors in training and to the multidisciplinary team.
* Ability to present effectively to an audience using a variety of methods.
Qualifications
* MRCP or equivalent
* Full GMC registration, and on the specialist register OR
* Full GMC registration and within 12 months of specialist registration due to completion of training or within 12 months of specialist registration due to application via CESR with the submission completed at time of application for post
Experience
* Experience in the management of a broad GIM caseload
* Experience in the management of an Elderly Care Medicine caseload
* Experience in a specialist interest that will complement those of other staff
Skills & Attributes
* Willingness and ability to fulfill the key elements of the job description
* Possession of the clinical skills required to perform the job including both elderly care and general internal medicine
* Ability to cope with the demands of a DGH based Consultant
* Ability to lead and develop the service
