Social Care Worker, Callan, Co. Kilkenny
Camphill Communities of Ireland (CCoI) are recruiting a Social Care Worker to support residents with intellectual disabilities. The role requires a high degree of professionalism, confidentiality, and commitment to resident welfare.
Responsibilities
* Advocacy & Rights: Respect each person as an equal citizen, uphold human and constitutional rights, facilitate choice and decision‑making skills, encourage self‑advocacy, enable hobbies and interests, develop self‑help and social skills, facilitate community integration.
* Person Centred Support for Living: Ensure a person‑centred approach, support occupation, leisure, communication, behavioural plans, independent living, social integration, personal care, personal development; act as Key Worker, coordinate medical appointments, healthy diet, training and activities, enforce behaviour support plans.
* Physical & Personal Care: Provide moving and handling, fire safety, cleaning, laundry, infection control, personal care assistance (dressing, bathing, toileting, etc.), promote hygiene and appearance standards, support personal hygiene programmes.
* Recreation & Social Activities: Facilitate participation in recreational and leisure activities, liaise with workshops for house‑to‑work transitions, participate in social activities, liaise with Day Services Coordinator.
* Transport: Drive assigned transport, participate in transport duties, coordinate transport needs with staff.
* Financial & Household Management: Encourage prudent management of personal monies, administer prescribed medication, maintain records, assist Shift Lead with household running, maintain building maintenance, manage clothing and linen, maintain house accounts, reconcile petty cash and personal monies, assist budget preparation.
* Management & Leadership: Adhere to legislative and CCoI policies, maintain records, produce timesheets, financial statements, reports, coordinate staff and volunteers, assist training, ensure quality support, ensure policies and codes of practice are followed, manage attendance of students.
* Health & Safety: Ensure House is safe and aligns with Health & Safety Act and HIQA standards.
Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience
* Hold a minimum level 7 on QQI Framework – BA in Social Care Studies or equivalent in Health or Social Care.
* 1 year of experience working with vulnerable adults or adults with intellectual disabilities.
* Understanding of current policy and developments at national and sectoral level.
* Ability to follow, evaluate and contribute to further development of plans and methods.
* Effective interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
* Proficient IT skills – Microsoft Office Excel, Word, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams.
* Full driver’s licence and own car available.
