We are on a journey to build a workforce reflective of our Borough.

We are committed to fostering diverse teams where everybody can bring their authentic selves to work and feel that they belong. If you want to work for a Council where everybody is encouraged to meet their full potential and make a difference in our neighbourhoods, we would love to hear from you!

Your role

This role supports Adult Social Care and Health by helping customers and families find affordable, sustainable supported living that meets their needs and aspirations. Working closely with the Customer and Family Liaison Officer, the postholder brokers relationships across housing and support providers, and facilitates smooth transitions into new homes. The role gathers customer and family insight, supports the development of new supported living schemes, and reduces property vacancies and financial liabilities. It contributes to strategy, data analysis and co-production, promotes asset-based working aligned with Wigan’s Progress with Unity principles, and delivers excellent customer care through independent and team-based working.

About you

The ideal candidate will have relevant experience in adult social care, housing, or support services, with a strong understanding of supported living. They will demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, enabling them to build trusted relationships with customers, families, providers, landlords, and partner agencies. Strong organisational and administrative skills are required, including arranging and recording minutes. The role requires analytical ability, confidence working with commissioning and financial models, and experience using IT systems. The candidate must be flexible, proactive, able to work independently and as part of a team, and willing to work outside office hours when needed.

About us

Wigan Council has been voted ‘Overall Council of the Year’ at the APSE (Association for Public Service Excellence) Awards. We are signed up to the Greater Manchester Continuous Service Commitment ensuring that your service will be continuous or unbroken between the supporting organisations.

The Progress with Unity plan is a place movement for change for the next decade, bringing a new era for Wigan Borough. It draws on the strengths of our individual organisations, recognising that together we can achieve much more for our communities by delivering on our 2 place missions; create fair opportunities for all children, families, residents and businesses and make our towns and neighbourhoods flourish for those who live and work in them.

This role offers a meaningful opportunity to make a real difference to adults and families by supporting access to safe, affordable, and high quality supported living. It provides varied and rewarding work, combining direct engagement with customers and families alongside strategic and partnership-focused activity. You’ll gain experience working across social care, housing and health, contributing to service development, new housing initiatives, and co-produced strategies. The job offers professional development through involvement in commissioning, data analysis, and system improvement, while promoting flexible working, collaborative teamwork, and a strong values-led culture focused on positive outcomes, innovation, and community connection.

Here at Wigan, we are proud to support flexible working patterns, when the service can accommodate this. We also take a blended approach to where we work, depending on the work we do. This may include working from home, the office, or the community. We like to thank our employees for their hard work and commitment by giving them the opportunity to access a range of exclusive rewards and benefits.
