About this opportunity
* To join Cumberland Council’s Learning Support Service (LSS)
* To support schools in enabling each child to thrive
* To assist children with Educational Health Care Plans in their learning development
* To help ensure the health and well-being of young people
Key responsibilities
* Deliver learning, skills, personal, and practical support
* Meet needs and promote well-being for individuals and groups
* Supervise and support pupils, including those with special needs, ensuring safety and access to activities
* Assist with developing and implementing Education/Behaviour Plans and Personal Care programmes
* Build positive relationships with pupils, interacting according to their needs
* Promote inclusion and acceptance for all pupils
* Encourage interaction and engagement in activities led by teachers
* Set challenging expectations to promote self-esteem and independence
* Provide feedback on pupils’ progress and achievements under teacher guidance
Who we’re looking for
* Recent experience working with children in an educational setting (including placements)
* Awareness of child welfare, safety, and educational practices
* Understanding of Early Years Foundation Stage/National Curriculum
* Basic knowledge of child development and learning strategies
* Desirable: knowledge of other youth services
* Ability to evaluate learning needs and seek development opportunities
* Desirable: effective use of ICT tools to support learning
* Good communication skills and ability to relate to children and adults
* Ability to work well in a team and understand classroom roles
* Soft skills: communication, adaptability, collaboration
* Promote development opportunities within the team
* Use inclusive language and demonstrate commitment to diversity
