We’re recruiting for a Trainee Site Manager based in Birmingham. This is a full‑time permanent role working 40 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary, company van and benefits package.
General Overview
The Trainee Site Manager supports the safe and effective delivery of construction, refurbishment, and maintenance projects within social housing properties. Working under the guidance of experienced Site and Project Managers, the role provides hands‑on training in site supervision, compliance management, and operational delivery. The Trainee Site Manager will assist in coordinating operatives, subcontractors, and materials, ensuring work is completed safely, on time, and to the required quality standards – while maintaining excellent relationships with residents and clients.
Key Accountabilities
* Assist the Site Manager in the planning, organisation, and day‑to‑day coordination of site activities across multiple social housing projects.
* Support the delivery of works in line with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards, promoting a strong culture of safety and resident care.
* Help manage site logistics, including access, deliveries, and waste management, ensuring minimal disruption to residents and the local community.
* Contribute to site briefings, toolbox talks, and coordination meetings with trade teams, subcontractors, and client representatives.
* Monitor works in progress, recording site activity, quality inspections, and progress updates using digital management systems.
* Assist in the supervision of subcontractors and operatives to ensure works are completed to specification, safely and efficiently.
* Support resident liaison activities, helping to communicate planned works, resolve basic queries, and promote a positive experience for tenants.
* Learn and apply construction management processes such as risk assessments, method statements, and permits to work.
* Participate fully in structured learning and development plans to build capability towards independently managing small works or site sections.

Essential Qualifications
* A genuine interest in developing a career in site management within the social housing or construction industry.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer‑focused approach when working in occupied homes.
* Awareness of basic construction methods, health and safety requirements, and site operations.
* Organised and proactive, with a willingness to learn from experienced colleagues and take on increasing responsibility over time.
* IT literacy (e.g., Microsoft Office, digital reporting tools).
* Full UK driving licence or ability to travel between sites.
Desirable Qualifications
* Working towards or recently completed a qualification in Construction Management, Site Supervision, or a related discipline (e.g., HNC, HND, T Level, or Degree).
* Previous experience in a construction or maintenance environment (e.g., work placement, apprenticeship, or trade background).
* CSCS card or willingness to obtain one.
* Awareness of social housing compliance standards and resident engagement principles.
* Understanding of CDM Regulations and Building Regulations.
