Job Summary
Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust is seeking to appoint a dynamic, enthusiastic and motivated Locum Consultant in Obstetrics with a special interest in Maternal Medicine to join our busy, forward‑thinking Women’s Health team.
This post is for 1 year to cover maternity leave, and the successful candidate will commence as soon as possible.
Maternal Medicine Service
Our fully established Maternal Medicine service is supported by a full‑time specialist midwife, two consultants and strong collaborative links with other hospital specialties. The service incorporates the obstetric diabetes pathway with a dedicated diabetes specialist midwife. Multidisciplinary working is at the heart of our approach, with regular joint clinics and MDT meetings involving colleagues from epilepsy, diabetes, neurology, gastroenterology, cardiology, rheumatology and respiratory medicine.
We also provide pre‑pregnancy counselling for women with medical disorders and work closely with the Maternal Medicine Network for the care of Category C patients. Opportunities are available to contribute to research, audit, service development and to engage with wider professional organisations such as MOMS and BMFMS.
Main Duties
* Antenatal clinics, including 1 maternal medicine clinic and 1 joint diabetes clinic per week.
* Elective caesarean lists.
* Administrative duties (appropriate office space and secretarial support provided).
* Weekend on‑call duties for obstetrics shared with 16 colleagues (approximately 1:8 basis).
* Saturday on‑call duties (resident 08:00‑19:30, non‑resident until 08:00).
* Short working weekend (08:00‑16:00 Sat & Sun, no overnight on‑call).
* Non‑patient‑facing duties on a post‑on‑call day.
* Hot week (alternate antenatal/labour ward) – 1 week, Monday‑Friday 08:00‑18:00, relieved of other activities.
* Weekday on‑call duties for obstetrics shared with 16 colleagues (approximately 1:16 basis; resident 17:30‑23:00, non‑resident until 08:00).
* Supporting professional activities (minimum 1.5 SPAs included in the core 10PA timetable; additional SPA or DCC time may be commissioned).

Person Specification – Experience (Essential)
* ATSM advanced labour ward practice or equivalent
* ATSM obstetric medicine or equivalent
* Fully accredited by college and acceptable to college representative
* Maintenance of highest clinical standards in the management of an obstetric service
* Appropriate experience in obstetrics
* Responsibility for day‑to‑day management of the service (shared with colleagues)
* Teaching and training of junior staff and medical students
* Active participation in departmental and Trust matters concerning clinical governance and audit
* Responsible for active participation in continuing medical education (CME)
