We are looking for a specialist OT or PT to join our well established and integrated hand therapy team!
Our highly specialised team is a regional specialist service, taking referrals predominantly from plastic surgery, orthopaedics and our major trauma ward.
This post is based in Royal Preston Hospital outpatient therapy department but will includesome cross site working at Chorley Hospital as part of the wider integrated hand therapy team.
Applicants must be registered with the Health and Care Professions council (HCPC). Physiotherapists should be registered with CSP, and it is desirable for Occupational Therapists to be registered with RCOT. Membership to BAHT is also desirable for both professions!
Main duties of the job
Applicants for this post should have post-graduate experience within the field of hand therapy and be able to demonstrate their ability to manage patients with hand conditions utilising a range of therapy modalities including thermoplastic splinting. You should have sound clinical reasoning skills and be able to manage and prioritise your own caseload.
Exceptional communication, team working and leadership skills are essential to enhance working relationships both internally and external to the team. An ability to thrive under pressure and experience of working in a fast pace environment are essential due to the responsive nature of acute Hand Therapy.
Supervision of therapy assistants, newly qualified therapists and students is expected. Support will be given as necessary to facilitate this.
Active involvement in training, education, research and service development are encouraged and we support opportunities to facilitate this.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Duties to include, but not be limited to :
* To directly support the delivery of evidence based hand therapy to patients
* To communicate and collaborate with all Core Therapies Service stakeholders
* To support personal and people development.
* To support service development and planning .
* To help to ensure the health, safety and security of users of the Integrated Therapies, self and colleagues
* To support the Clinical Governance and Quality agenda within Core Therapies .
* To support equality of opportunity and access within Core Therapies for both staff and patients.
* To provide and use information to support admin processes and patient care.
Person specification
Qualifications and Education
Essential criteria
* H.C.P.C Registration
* Occupational Therapy degree / diploma
* Evidence of CPD in relevant specialist areas.
Desirable criteria
* Member of a Professional Body
* Clinical Educator
* Relevant additional courses / post grad education
Knowledge and experience
Essential criteria
* Experience of MDT working
* Experience of completing holistic assessments and interventions with major trauma patients
* Experience in dealing with complex patients, including discharges
* Knowledge of a broad range of clinical presentations and current evidence-based practice within major trauma.
Desirable criteria
* Understanding of the regional and national drivers influencing service provision within major trauma
* Supervision of therapy assistants, students or band 5 OT’s
* Experience of clinical audit, research and outcome measures
* Awareness of NICE guidelines to support service development
* Experience with wheelchair provision
