SEN & SEMH Secondary Teachers – January Start – Farnham

Specialist secondary SEN and SEMH schools in Farnham and the surrounding areas are seeking fully qualified teachers for January start dates. These settings support pupils with autism, learning difficulties, communication needs, sensory differences, and—within SEMH schools—young people who present with emotional and behavioural challenges. Schools are looking for adaptable, resilient, and compassionate teachers who can deliver high-quality, individualised learning in specialist environments.




About the Pupils and Their Needs

Depending on the setting, you may be working with pupils who have:

In SEN specialist schools:

* Autism spectrum conditions with communication, social interaction, or sensory needs

* Moderate or severe learning difficulties (MLD/SLD)

* Cognitive delays impacting memory, processing, and problem-solving

* Speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN)

* High levels of anxiety linked to routine changes or transitions

* Sensory processing differences that may lead to overload or withdrawal

In SEMH secondary settings:

* Emotional and behavioural difficulties

* High anxiety, low self-esteem, or trauma-related needs

* Dysregulation and challenging behaviour requiring consistent, relational approaches

* Barriers to learning linked to past negative school experiences

Across all settings, pupils benefit from structured routines, differentiated teaching, and a strong focus on relationships and engagement.


Role Responsibilities

As a Secondary SEN/SEMH Teacher, you will:

* Plan and deliver differentiated secondary subject lessons tailored to a wide range of abilities

* Support pupils’ academic, social, and emotional development

* Use structured approaches such as TEACCH, visual supports, and communication systems

* Manage challenging behaviour using calm, trauma-informed, de-escalation strategies (in SEMH settings)

* Work collaboratively with TAs, SENCOs, therapists, behaviour mentors, and external agencies

* Contribute to EHCPs, behaviour plans, progress tracking, and annual reviews

* Create predictable, inclusive learning environments that promote engagement and confidence

* Build positive relationships that support emotional regulation, independence, and resilience


Key Details

* January start roles available across multiple specialist secondary schools

* Full-time positions available; part-time considered in some settings

* Term-time only

* Long-term and permanent roles paid to the Teacher Pay Scale (MPS/UPS) depending on experience

* Excellent CPD offered, including autism training, SEMH strategies, and behaviour support

* Location: Farnham and surrounding areas

* Teachers with Maths, PE, Science, English, and other secondary specialisms are strongly encouraged to apply

* Fully qualified secondary teachers (QTS/QTLS), including ECTs

* Teachers experienced in SEN, autism, MLD/SLD, complex needs, or SEMH

* Subject specialists confident in adapting the secondary curriculum

* Teachers who are patient, resilient, and passionate about inclusive, personalised education

* Mainstream teachers looking to transition into specialist secondary education


Requirements

* QTS or QTLS

* Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain)

* Right to work in the UK

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
