Responsibilities
* Assist in fulfilling the Local Authority s statutory duties concerning the identification, assessment, and provision for children and young people with special educational needs and social, emotional, and mental health needs.
* Provide psychological advice, consultancy, and support to school staff and others as a key member of a multidisciplinary team to enable children and young people to achieve good outcomes at the SEN Support stage.
* Deliver efficient and professional psychological services as directed by the Principal Educational Psychologist, adhering to legislation, Council, and Educational Psychology Service policies.
* Offer information and advice on the developmental and learning needs of children and young people referred to the service, and on effective provision to meet these needs.
* Contribute to projects/tasks that enhance the authority s service delivery efficiency and effectiveness.
* Monitor and report on time allocation to work areas and service delivery effectiveness to develop and achieve appropriate service standards.
* Support senior staff by providing consultation, supervision, and advice to colleagues.
* Contribute to training and development work within the Directorate, with school staff, parents, carers, and others to support effective management of pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs and special educational needs.
* Collaborate with other professionals as part of a multidisciplinary team, supporting their professional development through consultation and effective collaborative work.
* Stay informed about relevant legislative frameworks, Council policies, Business Processes, and service guidelines and standards.
* Develop and maintain professional knowledge, skills, and experience to meet the post's requirements.
* Promote and support the Council's policies and procedures for safeguarding, ensuring duties are carried out in a manner that ensures the safeguarding and welfare of service users.
Person Specification
* Education and Formal Training:
o Eligibility for registration as an Educational Psychologist with the Health Professions Council.
o Good honours degree in Psychology.
o Postgraduate qualification at Masters or Doctoral level, acceptable to the Association of Educational Psychologists and British Psychological Society as clinical training for Educational Psychologists.
* Knowledge and Experience:
o Experience working with children and young people, including those with special educational needs and other problems presented to psychological services within the public sector of Education.
o Successful collaboration with other professionals to support the development of children and young people.
o Knowledge of current approaches, tools, and techniques available to Educational Psychologists.
o Experience in contributing to projects and policy development (Desirable).
o Knowledge of current legislation affecting the work of Educational Psychology.
* Skills and Abilities:
o Self-motivated to achieve high standards for self and others.
o Effective time management and prioritization skills.
o Ability to use supervision constructively for self-reflection and practice improvement.
o Collaborative working skills.
o High level of applied literacy and numeracy.
o Competence in IT use for management and administration.
o Orientation towards achieving organizational goals, customer service, quality, and value for money.
o Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
o Ability to manage a large and varied personal workload and maintain judgment under pressure.
o Data handling skills with the ability to analyze information and present clear, concise reports.
* Personal Circumstances:
o Satisfactory enhanced DBS check.
o Ability to travel around and outside the Borough with necessary equipment.
o Car ownership/driving is desirable.
