Job Overview
An exciting opportunity to work within the Paediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Clinical Nurse Specialist Team as a Band 6 Co‑ordinator at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital in Manchester. The role involves advanced BMT nursing skills in direct patient care and service development.
Main Duties
* Coordinate donor pre‑ and post‑care for related and unrelated donors.
* Provide teaching and education to patients and families.
* Obtain and check bloods, process results, and report findings to the medical team.
* Arrange appropriate referrals to other services (e.g., NHSBT, theatres, dental, physio, cardiology, Ronald MacDonald).
* Prepare Bone Marrow Aspirate trays, distribute samples nationally and worldwide.
* Manage treatment, infusion, bloods and care of BMT outpatients in Ward 84 Day case.
* Plan discharge, including medication, line, NGT, PN training with families.
* Retrieve tissue in theatre for fertility preservation.
* Collect BMT data, conduct audits.
Qualifications
* Evidence of CPD in the relevant speciality.
* Specialty or teaching experience.
* Completed appropriate management or leadership courses.
Training and Experience
* Professional achievements in practice/speciality.
* Teaching programmes to staff.
* Knowledge of local and national issues affecting speciality.
* Knowledge of service and developments.
* Evidence of multidisciplinary/multi‑agency working.
* Experience of clinical audit.
* Experience of research activities.
* Attendance at speciality conferences or meetings.
