Overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled, experienced and enthusiastic CBT Therapist to join EPUT’s perinatal psychological services for mothers, birthing people and their infants. The Perinatal Mental Health Service (PMHS) provides high quality maternal mental health and wellbeing support and intervention to mothers, birthing people and their infants across Essex. PMHS offers a 1 year Fixed Term contract for a 0.5 WTE Band 7 post. PMHS consists of five perinatal hubs across Essex, with a staff mix comprising Nursing, Psychiatry, Psychology and specialist roles such as nursery nursing, social work and OT. PMHS works with a range of services to support a mother’s emotional wellbeing including maternity and health visiting, primary and secondary care mental health services. PMHS aims to provide streamlined, timely and effective care for mothers and birthing people in the perinatal period. This post will be in North East Locality (Colchester and Coastal Towns).

Responsibilities

* To deliver high quality, evidenced-based and specialised psychological assessments and interventions, both individual and group.
* To deliver high quality consultation to staff and support MDT decision making and thinking.
* To support senior management with service development initiatives and strive for high quality responsive care for mothers, birthing people and their infants.

Context and Practice

Pregnancy and the transition to parenthood are recognized as a time when mental health difficulties and relationship stress can occur. Experience of preexisting trauma as well as trauma during the perinatal period can have a significant impact on the experience of becoming a parent. Psychological interventions which are specific, effective, and valued by women can support them with such difficulties. This role will support the delivery of specialist psychological consultation and assessment as well as evidence-based trauma-focused interventions such as TF-CBT and EMDR. The role also requires MDT attendance, contributing to the decision making and thinking for perinatal care planning.
