Full and Part Time Hours available

An exciting opportunity has opened up for a Band 5 Recovery Practitioner in our Recovery Unit. We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic person to join our team.

In this post you are responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidence-based patient care using clinical expertise and skill. The post holder will work collaboratively and co-operatively with other members of the multi‑disciplinary team, in meeting the needs of the patients.


Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a NMC / HCPC registered practitioner or nurse who will assess, plan, implement and evaluate high quality, safe and compassionate care for patients in the perioperative setting. This care will be facilitated using evidence based perioperative standards, trust policies as well as local and national guidelines (e.g. NICE).

The post holder will be expected to work with the perioperative multidisciplinary team (including Anaesthetists and Surgeons) to provide effective care within the Post Anaesthetic care discipline, in line with scope of practice and departmental need.

The post holder will support the Theatre Leadership Team to ensure standards of practice and care quality are upheld; this includes acting as a role model, supporting the learning of others and contributing to the development and implementation of improvement ideas.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You may already be working as a Band 5 in Recovery/PACU in another hospital but looking to move elsewhere. You may already be experienced, enthusiastic, adaptable and self‑motivated Band 5 working in Surgery/Critical Care or A&E wanting to move to Theatres and extend their skill set. We equally have opportunity for someone who is newly qualified and wants to develop their skills in our theatre environment, we offer a preceptorship development programme and a supportive training environment.

We are seeking applicants who can work a variety of shifts to cover core hours, nights and weekends.

Our 15 theatre department carries out a wide range of procedures for a number of surgical specialties including Orthopaedics, Trauma, ENT, Dentals, Urology, Ophthalmology, General Surgery, Colorectal, Breast, Obstetrics and more recently, Robotics.

Qualifications

* First level registered nurse or registered Operating Department Practitioner
* Current registration with either NMC or HCPC
* Accredited post registration qualification in Anaesthetics or Post Anaesthetic Care (as appropriate to role)
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* Intermediate Life Support / Paediatric Intermediate Life Support (Anaesthetics and Post Anaesthetic Care roles)
* Completion of a validated, university accredited, Surgical First Assistant programme of study to support extended scope of practice


Experience

* Experience in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care, using an evidence‑based approach
* Experience of understanding and implementing (adhering to) Trust policies, departmental procedures and local / national guidelines.
* Experience of working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team to meet the needs of all service users.
* Experience of undertaking / recording CPD activities commensurate to the role, including keeping relevant logs to support annual appraisal / validation of extended role competencies.
* Experience across a broad range of specialities in 1 or more perioperative discipline (Anaesthetics, Scrub and Post Anaesthetic Care)
* Evidence of supervising junior staff and leading clinical teams
* Evidence of supporting colleagues / mentoring learners / facilitating learning within the perioperative environment
* Evidence of post registration CPD and recent experience as a Surgical First Assistant / ability to demonstrate specialist knowledge / competence to undertake Surgical First Assistant role

Payment for DBS checks for bank posts must be settled prior to commencement. Apprentices are exempt from DBS payment.
