A market-leading national plant hire business is seeking an experienced Purchasing Manager to take ownership of its procurement function at Head Office in Chesterfield. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a long-established, highly respected organisation operating at scale across the UK.

The Role
Reporting directly into the Managing and Operations Directors, you will lead and develop the purchasing function to ensure the efficient, cost-effective and sustainable acquisition of parts, equipment, and services. Your work will directly impact fleet availability, safety, environmental performance, and overall operational success.
This is a hands‑on, strategic role offering genuine influence across the business.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop, manage, and maintain a strong network of Approved Suppliers
* Build and National Supply Agreements
* Implement and manage robust risk management strategies to ensure continuity of critical supplies
* Ensure all purchasing and procurement processes are efficient, compliant, and cost‑effective
* Align procurement activity with the company’s Quality Management Systems
* Drive continuous improvement across purchasing and supply chain operations
About You
To succeed in this role, you must have:
* Proven experience purchasing plant, equipment, and associated parts within the construction or plant hire sector
* Strong exposure to equipment such as rollers, pavers, excavators, loading shovels, dumpers, and similar
* A solid track record of success in a similar purchasing or procurement leadership role
* Excellent commercial awareness, leadership capability, and negotiation skills
* Confident decision‑making and communication abilities
* A proactive, improvement‑focused mindset
* A full UK driving licence
