Engineering Manager – £90K to £120K

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a talented team of engineers who design, build, and maintain HubBox’s SaaS products. You will drive technical excellence while creating an environment where your team can do their best work.

Reporting to our CTO and Co‑Founder, you’ll bring clarity, structure, and momentum to how we deliver software—ensuring projects are executed efficiently and to the highest standard. Beyond delivery, your focus will be on developing people, coaching, supporting, and helping each engineer grow in their craft and career. If you’re energized by leading through influence, building trust, and shaping a high‑performing engineering culture, this role is for you.

About HubBox

HubBox’s award‑winning ‘pickup at checkout’ software makes it easy for any retailer to offer local pickup at their online checkout. Trusted by 1,500+ global brands, including Macy’s, Gap, Gymshark and Selfridges, HubBox cuts shipping costs and boosts cart conversions for retailers, while providing the flexible, convenient delivery option that 70% of shoppers want.

As a strategic tech partner to leading carriers like UPS, DPD, DHL and Royal Mail, HubBox quickly and reliably increases OOH network volume – adding millions of extra packages every year to drive long‑term, sustainable growth.

What You’ll Be Doing

* Look after a talented group of engineers, giving them the support, coaching and space they need to grow, set clear goals and get regular, honest feedback.
* Help shape a team culture that feels positive and safe, where people trust each other, include each other and are encouraged to keep learning and stretching their skills.
* Move the team towards a more data‑ and insights‑led way of working, helping everyone make better decisions rather than relying on guesswork or gut feel.
* Work side by side with our Product Manager on day‑to‑day planning and prioritisation, keeping the team aligned and focused on the right things.
* Keep delivery moving by clarifying objectives, helping the team unblock problems and making sure priorities are understood across the board, all under the guidance of the CTO & Co‑Founder.
* Run and refine the team rituals that keep everything flowing—like sprint planning, retros, stand‑ups and 1:1s—always looking for small ways to make things easier and more effective.
* Offer technical guidance on system design and architecture, helping the team think through trade‑offs and solve problems, even though you won’t be hands‑on coding yourself.
* Help hire and onboard new team members, making sure every person who joins feels set up for success from day one.
* Spot and nurture future leaders in the team, giving people opportunities to grow, step up and build deeper skills over time.
* Look out for opportunities to improve the product through feedback, insights and what you’re hearing from across the business.
* Work closely with teams across the company, sharing context, aligning priorities and ensuring engineering has a strong voice in the conversation.

Experience That Fits This Role

* 5+ years of professional software development experience, including at least 2 years managing or leading engineering teams.
* Proven ability to build and lead motivated, high‑performing teams in a SaaS or startup environment.
* Strong people‑management skills with a genuine interest in individual growth, team wellbeing and effective collaboration.
* Excellent communication and facilitation skills, able to create clarity and alignment across engineering, product and leadership teams.
* Deep understanding of modern agile practices and a pragmatic approach to improving how teams work and deliver.
* Passion for coaching and mentoring, helping engineers reach their full potential through clear guidance and consistent feedback.
* Confident providing technical direction and contributing to system design discussions, balancing trade‑offs to support sound engineering decisions.
* Self‑driven, ambitious and results‑focused, with a natural ability to set direction and inspire others to follow.
* Passionate about using technology to deliver great customer experiences and committed to maintaining quality as a core priority.

What’s in it for you?

At HubBox, you’ll have the chance to make a real difference. The opportunities for personal growth are huge, and your ideas will always be heard and valued.

* 25 days holiday per calendar year plus the usual public holidays, with an extra day for every year you work at HubBox up to 30 days.
* Enhanced Paid Parental Leave
* Work Outside the Office (WOO) for up to 2 weeks a year
* Pension contribution on qualifying earnings (not a perk, but still an important part of the package)
* A great space to work. Our Old Street office is more than just a desk. It’s a buzzing, well‑designed hub for collaboration, creativity and a bit of fun, all just a short walk from several tube stations.
