We welcome you to apply for a position as a Cardiac Physiologist highly specialised in Echocardiography.
Role Summary
To undertake, supervise and teach at highly specialist level a broad range of complex echocardiography and cardiac clinical physiology procedures throughout the Community Diagnostic Centre Southland’s Shoreham-by-Sea and associated locations as required. To work on all sites for the purposes of training, quality assurance and cover when required.
To work to the standards set by the British Society of Echocardiography (BSE), Society for Cardiological Science and Technology (SCST), British Cardiac Society (BCS) and also the Academy of Healthcare Science (AHCS)/ Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists (RCCP)
Main duties of the job
* To provide expert knowledge in highly specialist clinical areas and without supervision carry out a broad range of complex echocardiography
* Perform and report transthoracic echocardiograms (TTE) to BSE standard
* Analyse, interpret and write reports for above clinical procedures based on knowledge and experience of normal and abnormal criteria.
* To provide specialist advice to clinicians regarding results to enable further development of individual care plans.
* To lead in the support of all cardiac physiologists in training
* Effectively and professionally deal with emergency situations.
* Continue to develop highly specialist knowledge and experience including sufficient CPD to maintain professional registration
* To have responsibility for stock control in designated areas ensure stock levels are maintained appropriately and tracking of high value items.
* Adheres to Trust policies and procedures
* Actively maintain a safe working environment in accordance with H&S and COSHH policies.
* Maintain adherence to relevant guidelines for infectious diseases including staying up-to-date with donning and doffing of appropriate PPE.
* To undertake any other reasonable duties at the discretion of the Principal Cardiac Physiologist or his/her deputies

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* To provide expert knowledge in highly specialist clinical areas and without supervision carry out a broad range of complex echocardiography clinical physiology procedures to agreed standards and protocols.
* Perform and report transthoracic echocardiograms (TTE) to BSE standard
* To provide expert knowledge in a range of clinical service areas e.g. ambulatory monitoring, electrocardiography (ECG), exercise tolerance tests.
* Analyse, interpret and write reports for above clinical procedures based on knowledge and experience of normal and abnormal criteria.
* To provide highly specialist advice to patients regarding outcome of clinical procedures and next steps in care pathway.
* To provide specialist advice to clinicians regarding results to enable further development of individual care plans.
* Actively participate in clinical audits and research trials.
* To lead in the support of all cardiac physiologists in training e.g. production of training materials, completion of logbooks in line with professional bodies and departmental requirements.
* To be responsible for identifying electromedical equipment faults, resolving issues directly where possible and reporting to relevant individual(s) in a timely manner.
* To organise and delegate appropriately the daily workload for areas within the service, prioritising on basis of clinical need and service targets.
* Effectively and professionally deal with emergency situations.
* Continue to develop highly specialist knowledge and experience including sufficient CPD to maintain professional registration
* To have responsibility for stock control in designated areas ensure stock levels are maintained appropriately and tracking of high value items.
* As necessary, organize patient appointments in line with relevant appointment targets and issue appropriate patient information in a timely manner. Maintain patient records, both paper and computer based.
* Contribute to and actively participates in the correct reporting and handling of incidents and accidents.
* Actively promote team building within the cardiac departments.
* Participate in the development of the cardiac departments.

* Actively maintain a safe working environment in accordance with H&S and COSHH policies.
* Awareness of Trust’s Health and Safety Policy including knowledge of dealing with spillages of hazardous substances and handling infectious patients e.g. Covid-19, MRSA.
* Maintain adherence to relevant guidelines for infectious diseases including staying up-to-date with donning and doffing of appropriate PPE.

Person specification
Professional Registration
* AHCS/HPCP/RCCP
Qualifications
* BSc Healthcare Science (Cardiology), BSc Clinical Physiology (Cardiology), MSc Clinical Science or RCCP recognised precursor and equivalent experience
* Substantial post basic training
* Substantial NHS Experience
* MSc Cardiology or equivalent
* Minimum 2 years' experience as a Band 6 qualified Cardiac Physiologist
Skills
* Competency and highly specialised knowledge of Echocardiography
* Understand the national and local guidelines and procedures required to perform clinical tests
* Take responsibility for own continual professional development
* Previous experience of teaching formally/informally
* Previous supervisory experience
