Volunteer for a startup supporting people's mental wellbeing
Calm Nest Collective
Calm Nest Collective is a female-founded startup creating quiet, sensory rooms and offering consulting on neuroinclusion, accessibility, and holistic wellbeing for events and workplaces.
At Calm Nest Collective, we address the rising need for mental wellbeing support, neuroinclusion, and accessibility in high-stress environments like events and workplaces, while promoting social equity and sustainable practices that prioritise people and the planet.
Our Calm Nest Spaces are thoughtfully designed to support mental wellbeing and provide a safe, inclusive environment for individuals to decompress and recharge - especially those who are neurodivergent or experiencing stress and overwhelm.
By combining practical solutions with inclusive design, we help events and workplaces become safer, more supportive, and truly human-centered spaces for everyone.
Role (Volunteer, unpaid): Community Manager
Role Description: We are looking for an experienced Community Manager to help us launch and grow Calm Nest Community: someone who can hold space with care, nurture meaningful connections, and support the setup and smooth running of our online community. This is not a beginners role and it is a long-term commitment of a minimum of 12 months. This is a hands-on role, where you are able to establish and navigate building a community from the scratch.
This role is ideal for someone with lived experience or strong interest in mental health, neurodiversity, and inclusion in events but also broader, who wants to help shape a more sustainable and compassionate industry and has experience with online community management, and platforms running it.
What you'll do :
• Help co-design and set up our online community space (platform to be confirmed), ensuring it feels welcoming, accessible, and easy to navigate.
• Welcome new members, facilitate introductions, and gently encourage participation so people feel seen and not overwhelmed.
• Support moderation of discussions to maintain a safe, inclusive, non-judgemental environment aligned with our community guidelines.
• Coordinate and schedule regular touchpoints such as check-ins, peer-support circles, or Q&A threads with guest contributors from various backgrounds.
• Collaborate on simple content for the community (e.g. prompts, resource round-ups, recaps of workshops or peer-led discussions on topics like mental health, inclusion, and innovation in events).
• Help gather feedback from members so we can iterate the space, improve accessibility, and shape future Calm Nest offerings, including on-site Calm Nest Sessions at events and festivals.
What you'll bring
• Experience in community building, events, wellbeing, or a related field – this could be professional, voluntary, or lived experience.
• Strong interpersonal skills, with a calm, compassionate, and trauma-aware approach to communication.
• Commitment to inclusion, anti-oppressive practice, and creating spaces where marginalised communities feel safe and centred.
• Good organisational skills and comfort working remotely and asynchronously using digital tools (e.g. community platforms, shared docs, messaging apps).
What you'll gain
• The chance to co-create a new community from the ground up, with mentoring and thought-partnership
• Experience in community strategy, facilitation, and wellbeing-focused design within the events and nightlife industry
• Access to Calm Nest resources, peer networks, and potential opportunities to be involved in future on-site Calm Nest Sessions, workshops, and collaborations.
Time Commitment: Volunteer 10+ hours per week for 6+ months remotely
