Location

Edinburgh


Working Hours

Night shift 21:00 - 07:30 (4 nights per week). Nights worked: Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday. Days off: Tuesday, Friday, Saturday.


Annual Salary

£41k per annum plus up to 10% performance related bonus.


Position Overview

To manage the overall performance, workplace organisation, annual budget and functionality of the depot facility. Lead a team of drivers, store staff, team leaders and an assistant manager with whom you will work closely.

With an eye for detail and a flexible approach to meet the needs of the business, you must be able to demonstrate that you have a drive to attain and maintain excellent standards. Ensure that our teams provide outstanding service and that all deliveries are completed safely, successfully and on time.


Responsibilities

* Effectively lead the depot to excellent standards in the following areas:
o Health & Safety
o Learning & Development
o Customer Services
o Financial Control
o Facilities Management
o Despatch
o Human Resources Operations
o Transport
* Engage with colleagues in the depot keeping morale levels high and understanding where improvements can be made. Motivate all staff by coaching and mentoring through challenges and celebrating success.
* Organise and control the induction and ongoing training of all employees in conjunction with the Learning & Development team.
* Maintain good operating standards using 5S disciplines.
* Manage a depot level Profit and Loss centre, keeping distribution costs and overheads in line with budget.
* Fully explain any processes, changes or developments within the business to all staff through notice boards and meetings.
* Drive great culture and performance with the guidance of assigned KPI's.
* Deliver system and IT enhancements at the local depot aligned to the business IT system strategy.


Key Areas


Health & Safety

* Drive a proactive H&S leadership culture with Gemba walks, safety audits and behavioural observations as part of the norm.
* Record and report all accidents and injuries to the H&S team following the set guidelines.
* Carry out all manual handling training prior to equipment use and sign off by management.
* Assess any risk and ensure safe systems of work are in place, adhered to, providing training and reassurance when needed.


Depot Team Performance

* Review the following key points using a balanced scorecard approach, discussing regularly with team leaders and drivers, obtaining detailed feedback for reports:
* Customer complaints
* Driver messages
* Driving scores
* Bottle returns
* Delivery issues / GPS coordinates
* Run efficiency
* New business
* Provide effective training and inductions to all staff, ensuring any training practices are carried out to our standards of excellence.
* Have regular conversations and listen to all staff, taking their comments on board and driving change through involvement.
* Responsibly manage staff holidays through Sage.


Depot Processes

* All stock records and controls are maintained accurately, old stock is rotated to avoid waste.
* Ensure store staff can pick orders on time prior to drivers' arrival.
* Controls are in place to safely allow the movement of staff and vehicles without overcrowding in the depot and yard.
* Maintain a good standard of housekeeping, reporting and acting on any work required.
* Maintain the cold chain by ensuring all doors are closed and that the product only leaves the chill when loading is permitted.


Vehicle Fleet Management

* Communicate effectively with the transport team to ensure all faults and repairs are carried out promptly.
* Carry out full accident reporting processes, including obtaining third party details.
* Maintain high standards of vehicle hygiene.
* Keep fuel and Ad‑Blue logs accurate and up to date.


Regulatory

* Manage the facility in accordance with H&S regulations and technical food safety standards.
* Dispose, scan or secure all paperwork in line with GDPR.


Key Experience, Knowledge and Skills


Experience

* Background in dairy, food or drinks distribution preferred.
* Management experience in a nightshift operation.
* Exposure to food safety audit standards such as BRC.


Knowledge

* IOSH certified.


Skills

* Excellent knowledge of MS Office applications (Excel, Word).
