What Is the Opportunity?
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Consulting Technology Engineer with strong experience of AWS and Automation, specialising in design, deployment, maintenance and support of Travelers’ Wide Area Networks to join our network team in Redhill, Surrey.
As a consulting technology engineer, you will be responsible for managing network connectivity services for Travelers’ Wide Area Network backbone, SD-WAN environment, offshore and onshore field offices, cloud network infrastructure, inter-business and cloud exchange colocation connections and on-prem workloads in UK & North America based data centers. Responsibilities include designing, configuring, deploying, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining network components with a focus on code-based management to support connectivity requirements for 30,000+ employees and business partners, delivering enhancements, supporting a cloud network foundation, and providing hands-on support in local UK-based data centers or offices as needed.
Operating as a Team Lead, under limited supervision, you will demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of activities related to engineering support, installation, and operations of infrastructure technologies. You will plan at a tactical level and manage the effective use of technology resources for projects and functions. You may direct project staff to design, develop, and implement complex technology solutions supporting various business and technology areas. You will develop and implement solutions involving multiple platforms, databases, software/hardware technologies, and tools. You will facilitate and participate in designing and developing network topology, routing, switching, and security solutions. The role requires the ability to multi-task in a constantly changing environment.
Travelers Europe offers flexibility for hybrid work arrangements, typically involving three days in the office and two days remote, subject to policy changes.
What Will You Do?
* Design, engineer, analyze, configure, and troubleshoot WAN, cloud, and on-premises network infrastructure and services, including switches, routers, firewalls, SD-WAN, and WAN protocols.
* Implement network solutions supporting various environments such as Cloud VPNs, Global WAN, Data Centers, Remote Offices, Internet/DMZ, and B2B connections.
* Maintain network service quality and reliability, develop infrastructure management innovations, and ensure high availability.
* Provide support for local network issues, including periodic travel to UK field offices.
* Offer advanced troubleshooting support, develop industry relationships, and contribute to technology research and evaluation.
* Maintain detailed IT infrastructure documentation and communicate findings and recommendations to management, including executives.
* Prioritize tasks, manage projects within budgets, and ensure adherence to best practices and security protocols.
* Develop operational plans aligned with strategic objectives, drive departmental programs, and leverage infrastructure technology for solutions.
* Engage with customers and collaborate across teams to ensure effective results.
* Participate in on-call support rotations and perform other duties as assigned.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
* Experience in Technology and as a technical lead preferred.
* Advanced knowledge of network, database, server, and storage technologies preferred.
Preferred Technical Skills and Competencies
Experience designing, implementing, and supporting network solutions such as AWS and/or GCP native cloud services, Cisco switching/routing, SD-WAN, automation scripting (Terraform, Python, REST API, Rundeck), network management tools, telecommunications, and networking protocols.
