About the Role
Sheffield City Council is seeking a dedicated and adaptable SEND Educational Support Worker to join a fast-paced education establishment. The successful candidate will support high-needs learners in overcoming barriers to learning, with a strong focus on promoting independence, tracking progress, and achieving goals linked to Preparation for Adulthood, Maths, and English.
Key Responsibilities
Provide tailored support to learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
Assist learners in developing core skills in Maths and English.
Support learners in working towards Preparation for Adulthood outcomes, including independence, employment, and community inclusion.
Adapt support approaches to meet individual needs in a flexible and responsive way.
Monitor, track, and record learner progress against agreed targets and outcomes.
Collaborate with teaching staff, parents/carers, and external agencies to ensure effective learner support.
Promote inclusion and a positive learning environment.
Encourage learner engagement, resilience, and self-confidence.Experience & Knowledge
Previous experience supporting learners with SEND in an educational or similar setting.
Knowledge of barriers to learning faced by high-needs learners.
Understanding of Preparation for Adulthood framework.
Experience in tracking learner progress and outcomes.
Familiarity with safeguarding practices within education.Skills & Competencies
Ability to build positive and supportive relationships with learners.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Flexible, adaptable, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
Organised, with good record-keeping and progress tracking skills.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Resilience and patience in supporting learners with complex needs.Qualifications
Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, Learning Support, or equivalent (desirable).
GCSE (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
Training in SEND or relevant areas of learner support (advantageous).Other Requirements
Commitment to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion.
Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undergo).
Willingness to undertake relevant training and continuous professional development.
