Our client, a leading organisation within the UK’s energy and infrastructure sector, is seeking an enthusiastic Health & Safety Industrial Placement student to join their team for a 12-month fixed-term role. Based near Bridgwater, the successful candidate will support a major construction project within the mechanical, electrical, and HVAC alliance, helping to ensure safe working conditions across an evolving, high-profile site.
The Role
This placement provides a hands-on introduction to health, safety, and occupational hygiene within a large-scale industrial environment. Working alongside experienced safety professionals, the successful applicant will help monitor workplace conditions, assess potential exposure risks, and contribute to the development of practical control measures that protect workers’ health.
Previous students in similar roles have been involved in air quality and dust sampling, noise and vibration assessments, and chemical safety monitoring, gaining valuable insight into how large projects manage health risks effectively. This is an ideal opportunity for someone looking to apply academic knowledge to real-world safety challenges while developing a foundation for a future career in occupational health and risk management.
Key Responsibilities
* Support ongoing health risk assessments and occupational hygiene monitoring.
* Assist in identifying and mitigating exposure to noise, dust, and other workplace hazards.
* Contribute to the development and implementation of health and safety improvement plans.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to promote best practices across the project.
* Apply scientific and analytical techniques to help manage workplace risks.
Location
The role is primarily based at the Hinkley Point C construction site near Bridgwater, providing exposure to a large, complex infrastructure environment and the opportunity to learn from leading professionals in the energy industry.
Candidate Profile
The client is looking for individuals currently studying or who have recently completed a degree in a STEM discipline (minimum predicted or achieved 2:2). Candidates should have a genuine interest in workplace health and safety, an analytical mindset, and strong interpersonal skills.
A right to work in the UK from the start date is essential.
