Responsibilities
* Legal & Safety Compliance: Ensure adherence to all relevant transport and health and safety legislation, including operator's licence conditions and DVSA regulations.
* Fleet Maintenance: Manage vehicle maintenance schedules, service, repairs, and inspections to ensure all vehicles are road‑fit.
* Driver Management: Ensure all drivers have the necessary licences and qualifications, monitor driver hours, and manage issues like tachograph infringements.
* Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date records for vehicle maintenance, driver records (licences, CPC, etc.) and driver hours.
* Risk Management: Assess and mitigate risks related to transport operations; investigate incidents, manage fuel usage, and handle infringements.
* Policy & Training: Communicate compliance requirements to staff and develop or deliver training materials to ensure standards are met.
* Auditing & Reporting: Conduct audits, monitor data to detect systematic failures, and report on service quality levels.
* Driver Performance Monitoring: Monitor and manage drivers’ performance per drivers duties booklet.
* Vehicle Security & Presentation: Enforce security disciplines, ensure vehicle presentation meets company requirements, and report defects to maintain roadworthiness.
* Driver Training Program: Maintain a driver training program to increase skills and route knowledge.
* Incident Management: Prompt, effective reaction to breakdowns and accidents.
* Compliance to DTP contractual requirements through achievement of KPIs and investigation of customer service issues.
* Health & Safety & GDP compliance: Ensure department meets all H&S and GDP procedures.
* Leadership & Motivation: Provide effective leadership, regular briefings/debriefings, coaching, mentoring and performance monitoring.
* Continuous Improvement: Work with management to drive efficiencies within the Service Centre.
Qualifications
* Experience running a large LGV fleet covering all operational areas.
* Experience leading transport operations, including drivers and administrators at various locations.
* Solid leadership skills to engage drivers and deliver efficient performance.
* Experience interacting with transport systems, processes & data, such as Microlise (and ability to learn other systems).
* Good numeracy and literacy skills.
* Organised, analytical, structural, independent, tenacious and comfortable in communicating with others.
* Openness to process and change management.
* Knowledge of the pharmaceuticals industry (desirable).
* Management Transport CPC required.
Additional Requirements
* All management roles within the Service Centre must be “on call” for emergency orders.
* All management roles within the Service Centre must participate in a weekend working rota.
* Travel to link points and other locations may be required.
