Overview

As part of our Wave 14 expansion we are looking for individuals, with a passion for early intervention and prevention, to train as an Education Mental Health Practitioner to work across education settings in Rotherham. The Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) role is an opportunity to deliver evidence-based early interventions for children and young people in and around their educational settings, including 1:1 work, group work and whole school interventions. This post is a Band 4 post and upon successful completion of the course candidates will be employed by Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust as a Band 5 Education Mental Health Practitioner. Rotherham MHST is expanding into further settings as part of Wave 14, which will commence in January 2026. Candidates will be in training in their first year and will work full time from 9am to 5pm. During the training year staff will spend three days a week within the MHST service and two days per week at the University of Sheffield. A January start is required.
Delivery of the programme will be provided through a combination of taught days within the university, independent self-guided study days and experience gained in educational settings and mental health services. The candidate will be delivering evidence-based intervention for children and young people with mild to moderate mental health problems in an education setting. They will also support staff in education settings to identify and, where appropriate, manage issues related to mental health and wellbeing, working with and within educational environments to improve access to specialist mental health services. They will deliver 1:1 interventions, group work and whole-school interventions.

Qualifications and Experience
Essential
* Undergraduate degree, upper second class or above in related subject.
* Knowledge of the educational system in England.
* Knowledge of children and young people gained through academic study in child development, child wellbeing or mental health.
* Previous experience of working with children and young people in either a health or educational setting.
