An exciting opportunity has arisen for a temporary secondment to the post of Family Liaison and Bereavement Lead Nurse within the Paediatric Critical Care Unit.
The post holder will be an integral part of the PCC team, providing specialist leadership, clinical expertise and emotional support to children, young people and families within Paediatric Critical Care.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will act as a highly skilled practitioner in communication, psychological support, safeguarding, end‑of‑life care and bereavement. They coordinate multi‑agency pathways, ensure high standards of family‑centred care, and promote best practice in line with national bereavement frameworks and Child Death Review statutory guidance.
They work autonomously, provide leadership for staff, and ensure that evidence‑based family and bereavement support is consistently delivered throughout the PCC admission and beyond.

Paediatric Critical Care (PCC) at OUH includes co-located Level and critical care beds, delivering a wide range of specialist services to patients from Oxfordshire and the wider Thames Valley and Wessex Paediatric Critical Care Operational Delivery Network (TVW PCC ODN). We are a leading Neurosurgical and Major Trauma Centre and have a vast number of medical and surgical specialities.
SORT Retrieval Service OUH PCC Services include the SORT (Southampton Oxford Retrieval Team) service, delivered in collaboration with Southampton across TVW PCC ODN. It is staffed by doctors, ACPs and nurses from both Oxford and Southampton, with Oxford providing a retrieval team /.
Critical Care Outreach Service is a team of experienced nurses who support all healthcare professionals in the assessment and management of unwell children across the children’s hospital, emergency department, and neonatal unit, following up and supporting children and families following discharge.
Education, Development and Training is provided through a structured competency-based development programme, and we are piloting an inhouse PCC L specialist course for nursing staff. Clinical and leadership career development pathways are available. We have a growing team of Advanced Clinical Practitioners who work across PCCU and SORT services at OUH.
