About the Opportunity
An innovative biotechnology company developing next-generation ion channel therapeutics is expanding its biology and electrophysiology team. We are looking for a highly motivated electrophysiologist with a passion for ion channel research and drug discovery to contribute to the advancement of novel therapeutics targeting neurological and sensory disorders.
The Role
You will play a central role in designing and executing electrophysiological studies to support preclinical programs, contributing to the understanding of compound activity, mechanism of action, and target validation. Working closely with cross-disciplinary teams, you will help drive the progression of promising molecules from discovery towards clinical development.
Key Responsibilities
* Design, conduct, and analyse electrophysiology experiments on recombinant or native systems, including whole-cell patch-clamp and tissue-based recordings
* Apply advanced electrophysiological and pharmacological techniques to characterise ion channel modulators
* Utilise and develop solid-supported membrane electrophysiology (SSME) or related biophysical approaches
* Interpret data and communicate results effectively to project teams and collaborators
* Contribute to internal documentation, technical reports, and scientific presentations
* Engage proactively in troubleshooting and experimental optimisation to ensure data quality and reproducibility
Requirements
* Strong hands-on experience in manual patch-clamp electrophysiology or equivalent methods
* Comprehensive understanding of ion channel biophysics, pharmacology, and structure–function relationships
* Proven ability to independently plan, execute, and analyse complex electrophysiology studies
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative research setting
Desirable Experience
* Familiarity with automated electrophysiology or SSME platforms (e.g., Nanion systems)
* Exposure to CNS drug discovery, lysosomal biology, or other mechanistic pharmacology fields
* Previous experience in biotech, pharma, CRO, or academic translational research environments
Qualifications
* PhD (or equivalent experience) in Neuroscience, Pharmacology, Physiology, Biophysics, or a related field
* Postdoctoral or industrial experience in ion channel research is advantageous
What You’ll Gain
* The opportunity to work at the forefront of ion channel drug discovery
* A collaborative, science-first culture that values creativity, rigour, and teamwork
* Competitive compensation and benefits, with opportunities for professional growth
