We are seeking a dynamic, highly motivated Locum Consultant in Gynaecological Oncology to join our multidisciplinary team at University Hospitals of Leicester. This post offers an exciting opportunity to support and lead specialist oncology services during a period of service development and growth. You will play a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care across the full spectrum of gynaecological oncology services, including diagnosis, surgery, systemic treatment planning, and MDT participation. The successful candidate will contribute to both inpatient and outpatient care, with strong collaboration with colleagues in medical oncology, radiology, pathology, and palliative care.
Main duties of the job
* Participation in the delivery of specialist surgical oncology clinics and operating lists
* Involvement in regional MDT meetings and close collaboration with cancer pathway coordinators
* Contribution to teaching, supervision, and mentorship of junior doctors and trainees
* Opportunity to take part in clinical research, audit, and service improvement projects
* Participation in an on-call rota shared with fellow consultants (if applicable)

This Locum Consultant post involves delivering high-quality clinical care to patients with gynaecological cancers, including outpatient clinics, surgical operating lists, and MDT participation. The postholder will contribute to teaching, service development, and quality improvement initiatives. Flexible job planning can be considered.
Person specification
Qualification
* RCOG subspeciality training in gynaecology oncology or within 6 months of completing
* MB BS or equivalent
* Full GMC Registration at the time of taking up the post
* On Specialist Register for Obstetrics and Gynaecology (Gynaecological Oncology)
* MRCOG or FRCOG
* Current BLS Certification
* Membership of relevant Specialist Societies or Associations
* Higher degree (e.g., MSc, MD or equivalent)
Experience/Clinical Skills
* Competent in complex gynaecological oncology surgeries including cytoreductive and extensive procedures
* Clinical judgement, logical thinking, and analytical approach
* BSCCP accreditation
* Competent in robotic surgery
* Experience in HIPEC
* National or international surgical experience in a recognised Gynaecological Oncology centre with independent operating capability in cytoreductive and exenterative procedures
Management
* Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and supervise juniors
* Organisation, prioritisation, and workload management
* Experience in leading teams and understanding leadership styles
* Understanding of the wider health agenda and modern NHS
* Skills to overcome barriers to change (negotiation, influencing, persuasion)
* Knowledge of clinical governance and quality improvement
* Evidence of management and administration experience; management training is desirable
* Awareness of service development issues
Audit
* Active participation in clinical audit and quality improvement programs
* Experience of teaching and willingness to organize audit activities
* Completed formal courses in audit and quality improvement
* Published audit including quality improvement
Research
* Interest in research and ability to appraise research critically
* Publications in peer-reviewed journals relevant to the specialty are desirable
* Experience of supervising juniors undertaking research
Motivation
