Interim Senior FP&A / Finance Analyst North West | Hybrid | Interim (3–6 months) | £250–£350 per day "What I need right now is someone who can take messy data, turn it into something meaningful, and tell me what’s actually going on." Commercial Finance Director This is not a polished FP&A/Business Partnering environment. It is a business with scale, complexity and strong commercial activity, but without the structure, clarity and challenge in its financial reporting that you would normally expect. That is exactly where the opportunity sits. Why this role stands out This is a build role, not a maintain role. You are stepping into a business where: The data exists, but the insight does not The numbers are there, but they are not being challenged The commercial activity is strong, but visibility is limited "At the moment, everything is done on Excel… and no one can really tell me what we’ve applied for, what revenue we’ve got, or what we’ve been paid." This is not a drawback. It is the reason the role exists. What is in it for you Real problems to solve You will not be producing reports for the sake of it. You will: Work with large, unstructured datasets Build clarity where there is none Translate numbers into meaningful insight Help the business understand how it is actually performing Immediate impact Your work will: Feed directly into decision-making Shape how contracts are understood Influence how the business operates commercially A chance to build something This is the early stage of a new Finance Business Partnering capability. You will: Create reporting frameworks Build templates Improve processes Leave something behind that others will use Work with a strong, credible leader You will report into a recently appointed Commercial Finance Director with experience across: Construction and complex projects Private equity environments Transformation and change "I want someone I can point at the data, give them a task, and trust them to go away and figure it out."The role You will focus on: Variance analysis - budget versus actual Understanding the drivers behind cost and performance Working with large Excel datasets Supporting contract and commercial analysis Helping resolve legacy balance sheet issues Engaging with operational and commercial stakeholders What they are looking for This is about mindset as much as skill. You will likely be: A Finance Analyst, FP&A Analyst or Management Accountant Strong in Excel - this is critical CIMA/ACCA/ACA (or equivalent) Comfortable working with imperfect data Naturally curious and questioning Able to work independently and bring structure "It’s literally - the budget said this, we’ve been charged that. Why? What’s the difference?" Who will thrive Someone who: Enjoys working in the detail Is comfortable without perfect systems Likes building and improving things Wants to make a visible difference Why this is an interim role to get excited about: High ownership from day one Visible and meaningful work Exposure to finance transformation Strong CV story Potential longer-term opportunities "The person coming in will help me understand how these contracts are actually performing - that’s the starting point." If you enjoy turning complexity into clarity, this is worth exploring.
