Project Manager – Utility-Scale BESS Construction
UK - (with regular travel across UK & Nordics)
Salary Negotiable DOE
We’re looking for an experienced Project Manager to take ownership of complex battery energy storage projects for a global leader in power conversion and battery storage solutions. You’ll be at the heart of the energy transition, delivering utility-scale BESS projects that improve grid stability, support renewables and move us towards a more sustainable, electrified future.
The opportunity
In this role, you’ll be responsible for end-to-end delivery of BESS projects across the UK and Northern Europe. From contract handover through to commissioning, you’ll make sure every project is delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the agreed scope and quality standards. For some programmes you’ll run multiple projects in parallel, juggling priorities while keeping stakeholders informed and aligned.
You’ll be the “execution face” of the business for your projects – the person customers look to for clarity, answers and leadership. Internally, you’ll work closely with engineering, field service, procurement, operations and senior management to coordinate resources, manage risks and keep delivery on track.
This is a UK-based role with frequent travel – typically around 30% – across the UK, Ireland, the Nordics and occasionally wider Europe to attend site meetings, customer reviews and key project milestones.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll take full ownership of your portfolio of BESS projects, including planning, execution and reporting. That means translating contract requirements into clear project plans, tracking progress against milestones, managing variations and keeping a close eye on financial performance and margins.
You’ll lead cross-functional project teams, making sure everyone understands what success looks like and what needs to be done by whom and when. You’ll use established project management tools and systems to monitor progress, manage risk, escalate issues early and propose practical solutions when challenges arise.
A key part of the role will be building strong relationships with customers. You’ll host regular progress meetings, provide clear, honest updates and work collaboratively to resolve any issues. Internally, you’ll brief stakeholders on contractual obligations, critical paths and any potential bottlenecks so there are no surprises as projects move through design, manufacturing, installation and commissioning.
What we’re looking for
You’re an experienced Project Manager who is comfortable running large, complex projects in the energy, power, industrial or related sectors. You bring a strong mix of technical understanding and commercial awareness, and you’re used to operating in environments where safety, quality and reliability are non-negotiable.
You’re likely to have a degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering (or a closely related discipline) and at least five years’ experience managing large-scale projects with multiple stakeholders and suppliers. Experience with electrical systems, controls, power electronics or battery systems will help you hit the ground running.
You should be confident using modern project management tools and enterprise systems – for example MS Project, Project Server, SharePoint and Power BI – and comfortable working within SAP or Oracle environments. A working knowledge of relevant standards and codes (such as IEC and NFPA) will be a strong advantage.
Personally, you’re an excellent communicator, comfortable holding your own in technical discussions and senior customer meetings. You’re organised, decisive and able to manage competing demands without losing sight of the bigger picture. You’re naturally solutions-focused, resilient under pressure and equally happy working independently or as part of a wider team.
Fluency in written and spoken English is essential.
What’s on offer
You’ll be joining an established, international business recognised as a leading integrator of battery storage systems and power quality solutions. The team designs and delivers electric power and control systems, motors and generators, and turnkey engineering, installation and commissioning for customers across a range of industries.
In return, you can expect a competitive salary and benefits package, the chance to shape flagship BESS projects, and genuine career development opportunities within a global organisation committed to innovation and sustainability.
If you’re an experienced Project Manager with a background in energy or industrial projects and you’re excited by the idea of leading grid-scale BESS projects across the UK and Northern Europe, we’d love to hear from you.
